A Realistic Back to School To-Do List

In hindsight you probably should have checked your school e-mail at least a few times a month.

" Back to school, back to school, to prove to dad that I'm not a fool." If you aren't already back to school, you will be soon. There should be a few things on your list to get through before summer is over so you can have a successful semester. Most of these things should have been done before last school year ended, but why not start this one with a little procrastination for good luck!

1. Finally check your school e-mail that you have been avoiding all summer.

Why are there 500 unread e-mails in my inbox? Wait one of my classes has been canceled? Why did I do this to myself? Oh there was assigned reading and work over the summer for a class? It's summer, what professor in their right mind would do that to their students! I need to drop this class already and it hasn't even started.

2. Finalize your class schedule that you promised yourself you'd do after finals.

Things change over the summer, maybe you change your major, or you realize that having an 8 am on Tuesday / Thursday really wasn't going to work out. Realistically you were saving yourself time by signing up for 7 classes so you could have a little wiggle room finalizing your schedule. Go you!

3. Spend a gross amount of money on a planner that you will use for about a week.

Thirty dollars for a planner? Seems reasonable. SAYS NO ONE EVER! You and I both know that planner will be getting tossed under your desk along with all your unused books. But go ahead a buy it, but you know in the back of your mind it will not live up to its full potential with you. Plus, you'll really wish you had that money at the end of the semester.

4. Make a monthly budget.

So, you've saved some cash over the summer. Now for you're on sanity MAKE A BUDGET. You know what it's like living off of boxed wine, Ramen, Ritz crackers and Rubinoff the last month of school and you don't want to go back!
