Since 2009, the University of South Florida has taken on Florida State four times and the games have been so exciting. After winning in 2009 during our first meeting, it was easy to see that a rivalry quickly developed. Though going two seasons without the Seminoles on the schedule, it was fate that we would play them again in 2012. The outcome this time? Let's just say that Florida State got some sweet revenge. However, after two more seasons of preparing, the Bulls lost again in 2015 and sadly once more this past weekend.
I was really hype and hoping that 2016 would be our year to snatch a W from the 'Noles, but nonetheless, we fell short. Win or lose, the Florida State games are ones to go crazy about and definitely have a pattern of an emotional roller coaster. Here's a little sympathy list that shows what we all were really feeling and doing this past Saturday at Ray Jay.
1. Jumping in the car or bus to the stadium.
Alright it's game day! Who cares if it is 8 a.m.? We have to get to the game to tailgate and get ready for the smackdown of FSU! They are going down and this season is going to be so good. 4-0 here we come.
2. Waiting in line.
It's starting to get really hot outside, but oh well. Let's just start screaming "Go Bulls" at every Florida State fan and let them know what's about to go down. (To be honest, at this point we have to remember that USF is definitely not going to win.)
3. Quickly realizing how hot it was.
Throughout the morning, the heat didn't hit me that bad, and I was hopeful I could make it until a little after 3 p.m. However, I realized that probably wasn't going to be a reality. My body was full of sweat right as I sat down in my seat, and I should have known better. At least I didn't pass out like the dozens of people around me.
4. Those first two touchdowns.
Those first two touchdowns were insane! After scoring on the opening drive, the Seminoles rebuttal, and then our second touchdown, the game was getting real, real quick. Being a Bulls fan was great during this game and the hype was amazing despite the outcome. Shoutout to our student section.
5. Halftime score.
Welp, what a surprise, my friends and I are overheating and frustrated by the scoreboard, 38-14. It was clear that we were not coming back from a 24 point deficit, so it was time to go home.
6. Leaving the game.
All I could think about in the car was taking a shower and a nap. Also, UberEats saved my entire life that night. I'll never regret leaving at halftime during any game, even if it is Florida State.
