Cosmetic testing on live animals is an outdated, inaccurate and a cruel method of determining products' safety for human use. Despite this, animal testing is still surprisingly common in the United States, where it isn't mandatory to develop or sell products. The problem is, many are unaware. Still other countries require animal testing, despite the disadvantages it poses over modern testing methods.

Awareness on this issue could be more common, as most people do not take into consideration cosmetic testing on animals when buying their products. If the product is essential to them and their needs, the likelihood of thinking twice about humane aspects are slim. It is common, also, that the average consumer is all around unaware these practices are tested.

Odds are nearly every household in America has at least one product from each of those categories; they aid in our daily activities, so it’s not uncommon to be part of the percentage of people who take advantage of their uses. It is hard to switch companies or go out of the way to buy the more expensive brand that is less likely to be sold at your corner store.

I do believe that it is worth it-- the switch. Yes that list did include most everything an American owns, but what cost does it really come at? The photos below are real images that are the product of cosmetic animal testing. It is no joke. Does wiping down the counter or putting on that specific brand of mascara justify and disqualify the fact that before you used it, an animal was forced into taking the brunt of testing?

Everybody hates the ASPCA commercials of animals held behind the bars of a cage with heavy eyes because we believe that to be cruel and unfair. How about these…

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
