Group messages are a beautiful thing. Three or more people all having free reign to type whatever they want without worry of interrupting each other makes for an explosion of ideas and words. The idea of a group message is usually to send out some sort of mass announcement to a group of people.
However, if that group is filled with college-aged girls, the group message can quickly become the main means of communication for them, especially when separated over a distance during times like summer. Being part of quite a few group messages, I've realized that there are just a few things that GMs are actually used for.
1. Complaining about couples.
Everyone's getting married, having kids, and you're just like "I'm 18?"
2. Inside jokes.
Speaking in hashtags and all caps is only acceptable in certain circumstances like these.
3. Telling everyone how much you miss them.
Because sometimes you really just miss your girls.
4. Updates on life.
These are important things to know.
5. Obsessing over boys.
It's not creepy, right?
6. Very important questions.
Where else could you get the answer to this question (but really)?
7. The occasional (or very often recurring) fights.
It's really not acceptable to yell at anyone like this in any place other than a group message.
8. Or showing each other your love.
Because your fights are just jokes and you actually love your friends.
9. Talking about "Hamilton."
Because "Hamilton."
10. Making future plans.
You need to see each other at some point over break or you actually will go through withdrawals.
11. Releasing your struggles.
Sometimes all you need is a good rant and lots of capitalization.
12. And sometimes you just don't even know.
There's a lot of people, a lot of ideas, and it can't always make sense.
