Silence Doesn't Speak Volumes: Real Feminists Speak Up For Women's Rights

As President Trump is planning cuts that could harm The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), thousands of Planned Parenthoods are shutting down and over 12,000 women recently couldn't seek help in abuse shelters with defunding nationwide. If Trump decides to take away VAWA, this would cause the rising number of domestic violence victims, at a time where intimate partner abuse is currently reported every 20 seconds, to possibly have nowhere to turn for the health and emotional support they likely need to get out for her and her children's lives. Despite the hard-preached "abortion" focus towards Planned Parenthood by the far-right side, in comparison, no funding towards Planned Parenthood goes for abortions. Planned Parenthood's largely provide services so poor women can have access to reproductive services like birth control contraceptives which they need to prevent abortion largely because President Trump is trying to overturn Roe V. Wade. Even though women living in extreme poverty make up the largest percentage of those who receive abortions, Conservatives are not only attempting to take away a woman's right over their body, but the Conservative agenda gives many of these women in extreme poverty little opportunities of having a fortunate pregnancy by cutting away all the programs to support the baby once it's actually born.

I believe a woman who can stand silently at legislation that severely cuts these programs to help women and children has no right to identify as a feminist. In what kind of world is it classy to be proud of only being able to see results for your work behind closed doors and defending men who sexually assault women, like Ivanka or stealing Michelle Obama's words, like Melania? It's clear Ivanka likely supports her father's misogynistic views by teaching other women how to cope with men's objectification of women in sexual harassment rather than teaching women this behavior is appropriate and unacceptable. President Trump has a reoccurring way of bundling together all women's issues like VAWA, reproductive health, and equal pay dismissively over to Ivanka as if he could care less about all of it, which given the recent changes, I believe his views are rather clear. Donald Trump Jr. even says, "If women can’t handle sexual harassment, they should be “kindergarten teachers rather than in the workforce.” I just really don't get the appeal. How do some people find these women to be good role models simply by wearing elegant clothes and looking beautiful? I believe feminists are real leaders in the movement’s goal towards preventing violence against women, equal pay for equal work, and guaranteed reproductive rights.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
