Let's face facts: no one wants to go out when the weather is yucky outside. I mean I like the rain, but I could never endorse the idea of constant storms that Longwood's been having for the past few months. I don't know why the Farmville climate suddenly decided to be something other than cloudy and/or rainy, but I am definitely here for it! Lately, the newfound sunshine of spring has brightened up the overall mood of campus. With the new warmth in the air, us Lancers have felt better overall about school in a way that will carry through to the end of the semester.
Now, I am not going to pretend to have a great knowledge about global warming, but there has definitely been a bigger chill in the overall Virginia weather in the past few years. The seasons are not really seasons the way I remember them when I was a kid. It always feels like rain is never too far away even when the sun could be beaming so bright outside one day. In all honesty, rain is very much needed; however, rainstorms are not needed all week every week with only one or two dry, cloudy days mixed in for good measure.
Obviously, no one can control the weather near Farmville, but maybe the gloomy weather has an effect on us Lancers. For the past few weeks, I have watched so many people who are generally in decent spirits with sour expressions as the clouds loom over us like dreaded deadlines. Now that the sun is out, for the time being, people have been out and about more with a desperately needed spring in their step (no pun intended). The weather is taking a turn for the better, and I believe that the spirit of Longwood is being rekindled into the light for everyone.
Longwood really is defined by its traditions and spirit. Now that the weather is perking up, students and faculty seem to have perked up too. So, I welcome this new spring warmth with open arms, and I hope it is here at Farmville to stay!
