If Life's Got You Down, Here's How To Pick Yourself Up
Vitaly S

Hey there, mister grumpy gills. If you're here and you follow directions correctly, you are reading this article because you are having a bad day. Who knows why you're having a bad day. Maybe you had a fight with your parent, maybe someone you thought was your friend turned out to be much less than that, maybe school was harder than usual, or maybe there isn't a person or thing getting you down, maybe it's yourself getting you down.

Look no further, my dear friend, I am here to save the day. Who am I, you may ask? The answer to that question is quite simple. I am an optimist. I am a person who looks to the brightest sides of life for the sake of helping others, and now, I'm the person who's going to turn your day around for the better. I may sound cocky, you know, assuming that I'm pretty much Superman and I can turn your bad day into a good one, but, hear me out.

As stated before, if you're reading this right now, things might not be the greatest in life. Odds are you've had bad days before, because if you've never had a bad day, that means you've done the impossible, lived a perfect life. Nobody has a perfect life, which means, everyone has bad days.

I don't know you (I would have to be some kind of psychic to do that), but I know for a fact that you are a great person. No matter how much you may doubt it, I know for a fact that you have at least one person in your life that cares about you. I know for a fact that you have good characteristics or qualities that others could want. I don't know you, but I know for a fact that you're a perfectly imperfect human being that deserves every ounce of good this world has to offer. So, you have all this good going on and you have all this good being offered to you, which means that is when life is going to try its hardest to get you down. Things are going to get their worst then they're the best, because why would you try and bring something down that's already down? Life wants to bring you to your lows when you're in your highs, so do you know what you do when it happens?

Fight it.

If you succumb to your bad days, if you let them rule you over and manipulate you to believe you'll never get over them, then you've officially lost. The only way you're ever going to learn to overcome your bad days is by becoming stronger than they are. You have to hold your head high, even if it seems like everything else is fighting it's hardest to drag you down. You have to learn that life is life, and everything happens for a reason. You have to remember that God is always in control, and everything in His plan will happen the way they intended to. To overcome your bad days, you have to learn how to let go of the reins, and you have to understand that sometimes it's okay to not understand. It's okay to not know how a situation will work out, and it's not always worth the stress you put on yourself. You have to learn how to be okay, and how to be positive about every situation in your life, no matter how good or bad. Only then will you become strong enough to beat the bad day blues.

So, if today is one of those days, if you feel as though you're in your lowest of lows, just take a deep breath and remember that God's got this. Think about this bad situation you're in, and think of the possible good's that can come out of it. If classwork is stressing you out because it's just so hard and you don't think you'll ever figure it out, think about how accomplished you'll feel when you finally do figure it out. If you and an important person in your life are arguing or clashing on opinions, remember that every person you meet is meant to either be a blessing or a lesson, so take a moment to figure out which that person is. No matter what situation, no matter how stressful or how overwhelming, you can always look to the positives.

Or, if you can't look to the positive in the situation you're in, then create a positive. Listen to music that makes you feel great about yourself, or watch movies that remind you of good times. Find a group of people that make you feel like anywhere they are is home. Watch sunsets, or watch the stars. Find whatever it is that makes you happy in this life, and hold on to it on days like this.

One of the best representations of life I can think of is a roller coaster. You have twists and curves and ups and downs, yet you throw all that together, and it's a beautiful mash of chaos that we endure for nothing but joy and excitement in the end. So, buckle up, ride through this bad day with the reminder that your next great day is just right around the corner.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.
