The other week, I spent around 30 hours watching YouTube on my phone. time that was built up hour by hour when I was feeling tired and didn't want to read. My life coach gave me some great advice when it comes to book placement. Specifically, she suggested I start leaving a book in the bathroom, or anywhere that I know I'll have some idle time.
Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. If you're like me and like to grab the easy entertainment, here are three reasons you should pick out a bathroom book and get reading.
1. There Aren't a Lot of Places to Isolate Yourself.
In my family, there's never really a moment to yourself. That sometimes includes at least three people opening my bedroom door without knocking every other day. It's not something I love, but I've been unable to change it. One reason (for safety reasons) that a bathroom is prime reading real estate is that you typically won't have anyone interrupting you unless they have an emergency of their own and you're taking your time. Stake your claim!
2. You Might Take It With You
If you have the time to read in the bathroom, you probably have time to read somewhere more comfortable. If you make it to a place in your book that makes you want to keep going, take it to your couch and keep reading! You've just come a step closer to breaking social media addiction.
3. Reading Lends Itself to Personal Reflection
Not everyone likes reading constantly, it demands attention. I suspect that they do what I do, seek out the path of least resistance (YouTube, TikTok, etc.). When reading, I notice that I spend much more time thinking about myself, my life, the world around me, than I ever have when loading myself up with easy entertainment.
I hope this brief article has been a persuasive case for the bathroom book... the crappy chapters await!
