I believe many people look down on English majors because they don’t believe they can make a living from it. You either need to go into teaching or be the best writer, comparable to King, Patterson, or Rowling, right? For this reason, I tend to be hesitant to answer when someone asks what my major is. Here are a few of the responses I’ve received:

1. “Creative writing? So like advertising?”

2. “Who are your favorite female authors?”

3. “Oh…”

4. “That’s awesome!”

5. *awkward silence*

6. “Well, I wish you luck in your career.”

7. “What do you like to write?”

8. “So, you want to be an author? Or like a journalist?”

9. “So, like a teacher?”

Ah, yes, good old Hauppauge. We are that town in the dead center of Long Island that barely anyone knows how to pronounce unless they're from the town itself or live in a nearby area. Hauppauge is home to people of all kinds. We always have new families joining the community but honestly, the majority of the town is filled with people who never leave (high school alumni) and elders who have raised their kids here. Around the town, there are some just some landmarks and places that only the people of Hauppauge will ever understand the importance or even the annoyance of.
