SIR reminds me of Raphael Saadiq completely by the tone. I love the expression of his vocal range and musical influences. The album crosses over to Hip-Hop & R&B.
The album cover makes him mysterious and it makes you focus on his songs solely.
Some of the instrumentals remind me of Ice Cube Good Day. Very smooth, relaxing and nostalgic.
His beats even leave you with this eerie feel but it makes you curious about what's next. Even a Pharcyde, Fish in the sea feeling.
Top track is Tricky. Tricky has some blues riffs in there which brings you back to the heart of R&B. With the blues in mind it's focused a great amount on the guitar and then everything else but it blends nicely. I love the ending of it because he pulls trumpets together like a jazzy feel like the bands performing and it's the end and they just go all out. Amazing.
All in my head reminds me of Nate Dogg and Ice Cube Good day this song again proved the importance of guitar on this album. The beginning of the song he layers it so every instrument isn't thrown at you. First the guitar then a sprinkle of piano then hrs you with the percussion. And sometimes when you collide hip-hop & R&b we overwhelm the beat with percussion but this song made sure to have it subtle and not the main attraction. He doesn't particularly show range with this one but he shows passion. Cute love song but take away the cute and put sexy.
"Told me you were special and you meant what you said."-Fave Lyric
Cadillac dreams gave me a laid back Snoop dog & Dr.Dre feel. Imagine if Gin & Juice was a lot smoother. The feature kept us attentive. It's smooth laid back and one of those songs you pop in the car when you're with your significant car at night with the lights bright in the city and the song just comes on. It's about having that person near your side as you're driving basically. Or you can even interpret it as the Cadillac dreams as in y'all just rolling with whatever comes but in style. He's relating it to his relationship with the girl whether they're official or just kicking it. Like the music videos but in real life.
