Rape Is Rape

And there is no excuse.

The term "rape" is commonly described as a male forcing a female into having intercourse. This is not the only place where the term is appropriate, though. The definition of rape is some form of sexual penetration that is performed without a person's consent. The term does not claim that it is a man performing the of actions upon a woman. It could also be that a man rapes a man, a woman rapes a woman, or a woman can even rape a man. Today's society has its views all twisted up. Rape is rape.

It is taught in grade school that rape is not a good thing and that to prevent rape, girls should dress appropriately because otherwise they are encouraging rapists. What about the girls who are in a hoodie and sweatpants at the time of rape? What about the men who have been raped? What about the children who have been raped? Were all of these people encouraging the rapists because of how they were dressed? No. The blame is never to be put on the victim. It should be placed on the rapist. Instead of teaching girls how to not get raped, let's teach everyone how to not become a rapist.

It is also a common thought that rape only happens between strangers. People think that it could never be someone you know. That is wrong. Again, rape is sexual penetration without consent. It could be a close friend, a girlfriend/boyfriend, a wife/husband, etc. Rape has no limits. If there is no consent, it is rape. Never sit there and force someone into doing something that they do not want to do.

Regardless of the amount of alcohol that someone has in them, it is not their fault. Again, people should be taught to not rape. Sure, maybe this person should not have drank as much as they did, but that does not mean that they should be raped. If someone is extremely drunk, it is very possible that they have no idea what they are doing. To avoid possibly raping them, wait for another time when they are sober and can consent to sexual actions. If you want it that bad, you can wait.

Just because someone is nice does not mean that they are incapable of rape. Not all rapists are going to be extremely rough and mean. With that being said, not all rapists are going to drug you either. People get one idea in their head and believe that all rapists are the same, but they are not. They come in all genders, sizes, races, etc.

Rape is rape. Regardless of the situation at hand. As long as one of the people does not consent to the actions, then the actions should not be taken. It is as simple as that, and people need to realize that raping someone could be as easy as having your girlfriend or boyfriend saying no to sex, and yet the other person still pursuing it. Anyone can be raped, and anyone can be a rapist. Everyone just needs to be cautious of their actions, because one mistake could dramatically change both of your lives.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
