Recently, I've tapped into the minds of social media influencers to weigh in on the ever so controversial topic of molestation, rape, and abuse. In particular, the dealings with Robert Kelly better known as "R.Kelly". On January 03, A Six -Part documentary series was released via lifetime, one which included interviews from countless claimed victims who have experienced both sexual and physical abuse by the singer. After watching this series, I can honestly say that I am downright troubled by the allegations and I am finding it particularly hard to find deceit behind them. Not only was there a plethora of video evidence that resurfaced dating back as early as 1991 but as well as present-day footage.
The document series begins with the telling of the life story behind R.Kelly. He is a victim of sexual abuse, this greatly affects how he lived his life after. One of the prime examples to date is --the back story behind treasured singer Aaliyah and R.Kelly's first encounter in 1991 when Aaliyah was nothing shy of age 12. The two singers hit things off immediately. By 1994, With forged documents, R.Kelly was legally married to 15-year-old Aaliyah Dana Haughton. Denying all allegations of relational ties just weeks before this marriage, 27- year old, Robert Kelly had committed statutory rape.
During this time, the public, although at first unaware of the young woman's true age-- seemed to turn a blind eye well after realization. Together the two made world renown music and practically the world just liked seeing them together because of this. Still yet, years later as this story resurfaces and as women continue to step forward as victims .. with conflicting opinions and reactions people can't seem determine who is in the wrong.
If you are familiar with this singer you know that the lyrics behind his music are overtly provocative. After having viewed the documentary, I honestly think the true meanings of these lyrics have been exceedingly clouded by our captivation with the songs. Sad to say, but, this isn't something that doesn't continue to happen in our society. Sex in media is something that is praised. More so because sex is marketing and because sex sells. R.Kelly used his sexual deviance to his advantage and it ultimately turned out to be some poor victims demise. As an entertainer, it is your due diligence to entertain but once you begin to affect the lives of the innocent is where the line is greatly crossed.
I could honestly, rant on and on about this topic because it is possibly too much to include in such an excerpt. So, If you have time. Please go and watch this lifetime series and let me in on your thoughts behind this madness. No opinion is greater than another and of course, there is always more than one side to a story.
I choose to believe, the truth.
Whatever that may be.
