Hopefully, everyone who has clicked this is ready for an ear full. If you think rape is OK and a woman's fault, please kindly click away because this is not for you.

Let's start with Brock Turner, who recently turned twenty-one (happy belated, jerk). He received a 6-month charge for “20 minutes of action” behind a dumpster to an inebriated, unconscious girl. He claimed to have been kissing her and then things escalated. He claimed it was all consensual and there had been no penetration with his genitalia. This was not the case. Another student found him “thrusting his pelvis” (NY Times) toward her. What really irks me about this case is that his parents defended him. Describing him as sad, homesick, and mentioning things have been hard for Brock. So tough times and being emotional are excuses for rape now? Does having a bad day apply, too? So the next time I’m PMSing, can I steal chocolate from CVS or rob Chipotle at gunpoint to then later tell the police, “Oh I'm just having a bad day.” I feel bad for Brock's siblings. Their name is marred and their parents are too busy protecting the Brock. It should be especially difficult for his sister. If I had a brother and he raped a girl I’d beat him into his next lifetime-- which is hopefully hell. Six months and the possibility of getting out earlier on good behavior. Lovely. There is a woman in jail with a longer sentence for selling fake purses. Come on, third branch, you were the only ones I had faith in.

Next is John Enochs, who is twenty-two. (he’s from Downers Grove, IL). He was charged twice, once in 2013 and once in 2015. 2013 was dismissed and 2015 was lessened to a low-level battery offense. He was a member of Delta Tau Delta and he turned himself in in April 2015 and was released the next day and went to play golf. The victim claimed that she was raped at the Delta Tau Delta house and “did not remember much about it.” Later, she identified Enoch’s in a lineup and decided to press charged for closure. He turned himself in and then claimed to be innocent. There were a lot of forensic problems. The 2013 victim only came forward after 2015 victim came forward so there was no forensics there. 2015, there is a video that does not support her statement of “not being aware of sex because of alcohol consumption.” This case(s) is a complete mess, but there are two victims same mo and he only gets jail time is he offends during his one-year probation and no sex offender registry. Yikes, the third branch is starting to look more like the Third Reich (too far? sorry I'm in a bad mood, a perfect excuse to reference a historic tragedy that killed millions of people). He's got two complaints that don't tell you anything?

Okay let's move on to David Becker, 18. He raped two unconscious 18-year-old girls and is getting two years of probation and not being placed on the sex offender list. The judge wants him to “look forward to a productive life” and not walk around with the “stigma” of being on the sex offender registry. Also the judge “didn’t want to impede” on David from graduating high school or going to college. Becker texted one of the victims the next day apologizing to her after she woke up to him penetrating her with his fingers to only response “don’t even worry about it.” Honestly, the fact that she was brave enough to even answer gets her creditability. Why does the judge care more about this rapists well-being and future more than the two victims? “We all made mistakes at 17, 18, 19 and shouldn't be brutally branded with it for life.” What about those two girls, they were brutally branded. What about 17, 18 and 19-year-olds that drink and drive and kill their friends or themselves? They pay the consequences and are “branded” with that for life. Once again, Judicial branch whats up guys? Who's paying you off?

You know that awesome saying said by Regan “We don't negotiate with terrorists” well can we motion to extend that to we don't negotiate with rapists either? A lot of the reason why the three “gentleman” I have listed above is because they were offered plea deals, just like other criminals. Plea deals are used to get information out of someone, and honestly just so the defendant pleads guilty. Fewer tax dollars are also expended, trillions of dollars in debt over here, I get it, but pleading a sentence down to 6 months/ probation and not being put on the registry?? Where are the judge's priorities here creepy rapists or victims? Do any of them have wives, daughters, sisters, mothers, honestly even sons? This is actually sending a really horrible message in an underlying way. If you violate women it's okay just don't do it again you’ll get a slap on the wrist. Of course, there are repeat offenders and seemingly a lot of attacks, there are very little or no consequences. So many people question why victims do not come forward. People don't believe them sometimes, and when someone does and they go to court the victim gets badgered on the stand if she testifies. Along with all of this, their abuser may not even get convicted and if they do get a really easy sentence. Fine democrats you win, I guess jail/death penalty isn't a deterrent, but castration is. Do we have to have another prohibition because no one can drink responsibly and certain guys automatically things because she's had a few drinks it's okay?

The question that remains and I cannot answer with 100% certainty is the real reason why rape cases and trials go the way that they do. My strongest argument is the UVA rape accusation that was proven to be entirely untrue. Not only did this girl lie, she made up story after story proven to be untrue and it was taken way to far. This really damaged all the progress that was made in sexual assaults on college campuses. Statistics still stand that only 2% of people lie about being rape victims, so were cautioning falsely accusing alleged rapists because 2 out of 100 people lie about it? This does not only affect women this affects men too. They can also be rape victims and a very low percentage of male rape victims confess to these crimes against them because it's not socially accepted yet that a man could be raped. And for the men who think this is wrong, outrages them just as much as women; it makes men look like uncivilized neanderthals and it's wrong that women feel that way about men. The disconnect between genders today is so vast and that's not how it should be. Women hate men because I mean read above, that's only three examples of things men have done to women. Men hate women because we are too protective of ourselves and friends because we have absolutely no trust in men that we come off cold, guarded and sometimes downright bitchy. It’s messed up and wrong and needs to be fixed. Relationships need to be fixed and opinions of opposite gender need to be revised. We need to work together, not against each other.
