Our English teacher asked us over break to write a song/rap about something we thought was wrong with the world. I started small with what I thought was wrong with high school.
The ones with the biggest smiles
Are the ones with the biggest tears
When no one’s watching no one’s around
She’s crying all the time
Her smile says I’m fine
But her eyes say save me
And at the end of the day
She’s still got a smile on her face
She’s suffocating
She can’t breathe
She needs to get away
But the very thing she needs to get away from
Is the thing she loves most
A different type of drug
Can people be drugs?
These people that hurt her
They’re the same ones she can’t live without
So she’s conflicted all the time
And she’s tearing herself apart
The ones with the biggest smiles
Are the ones with the biggest tears
When no one’s watching no one’s around
She’s crying all the time
Her smile says I’m fine
But her eyes say save me
And at the end of the day
She’s still got a smile on her face
She feels worthless
Like there’s just no point
She tries to explain
She tries not to complain
But she feels like she disappoints
And people tell her she’s worth it
But their words are empty
They don’t know what they’re saying
She feels like she’s nothing
Unimportant
Irrelevant
Insignificant
But no one gets it
The ones with the biggest smiles
Are the ones with the biggest tears
When no one’s watching no one’s around
She’s crying all the time
Her smile says I’m fine
But her eyes say save me
It’s not like anyone looks into her eyes though
So at the end of the day
She’s still got a smile on her face
She dies a little each day
But no one sees
They assume she’s healthy and happy
And why wouldn’t they?
She’s popular and smart
She’s got nothing to be sad about
So she pushes it in
Pretends to be happy
Her problems don’t matter
There’s bigger things to worry about
Other than her and her issues
So she forces it in
And at the end of the day
She’s still got a smile on her face
