Random Shower Thoughts

So if you can use shampoo as body wash, why do we buy body wash? Like they both smell good so why don’t we just buy a big bottle of shampoo and use that as both. I bet it would save money in the long run. Wait why does this bath tub look dirty? How does that happen? If we use the shower to get clean and only use soap and water shouldn’t the bath tub be spotless? Don’t you think that would make more sense? I mean, I guess if you just came back covered in mud and then didn’t wash it all off after you washed yourself. Why would you be covered in mud though? Remember that one time I went dirt biking and almost fell off like three times. MY jeans were covered in mud. I wonder where those jeans went, I definitely remember washing them. I need to find those. I want to wear them tomorrow. Oh my gosh, I have so many things to do tomorrow. I have to go to the grocery store. I hate going to the grocery store. Do we have avocados? I want guacamole, ooo maybe I’ll go to chipotle for dinner. What was that noise. Did I lock the door? What if someone is trying to steal something? What can you even use to protect yourself in the bathroom? I guess I could use the shower rod, it’s kind of long though. I probably wouldn’t be able to get it down anyway. Maybe I could use hairspray and spray it in their face, would that hurt? I mean my hairspray is really good, maybe it would make their eyelashes stick together so that they wouldn’t be able to see. I remember this one time when I tried to put fake eyelashes on and I almost did that, definitely not fun.You have to separate each lash so slowly and it hurts so bad, but at least they didn't fall out. I can’t even think about the effort it’s going to take putting makeup on after I get out of this shower. How long have I been in here for? I’m most definitely wasting a lot of water. How do people take short showers though? Like if you spend less then ten minutes in the shower you're not clean; I just don’t think that five minutes is a good enough scrub. Ugh, I still have to shave my legs! Maybe I’ll just do my calves, I mean who really looks at your thighs. Or maybe I just won’t shave at all. What’s the temperature outside? I could probably get away with jeans. Yeah, I’m not shaving my legs today. Oh well. Dang, the water is starting to get cold. I’ll just turn it hotter, I’m not ready to get out yet. Too many responsibilities to avoid. I didn’t have anything that important to do today anyway. Well, that I can remember anyway. Why do I keep forgetting about things? I should really start using the reminders app on my phone, but I always forget to put the stuff in there. Thats not helpful then. I did walk the dog today, right? I feel bad if I didn't, ugh, guess it’s about time to get out of the shower, back to reality I go.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
