An A-Z Acts Of Kindness List
Maddy Harkness

Lately, I have been motivated by the thought that kindness is so important in this world. It can truly make a change. There is no reason to be rude, judgmental, and mean. Practice kindness! Remember it in your thoughts, it will help you be more positive and at peace with yourself. Every person is a human being and deserves to be treated nicely. For me, writing this article has been a crystal-clear reality check!

Accompany someone who is lonely.

Even if you are shy, say hello to the man in the coffee shop who is always alone. Ask someone how they are doing! It is so easy and makes someone feel like they matter.

Buy a friend their favorite snack or Starbucks drink.

Pay the extra few dollars forward.

Call your parents or your loved ones.

Keep in touch! They are so proud of you and love to hear from you.

Discourage cruelty of any kind.

I'm talking people, animals, or any form of life. Let everyone and everything live how they want to. If something bothers you, smile anyway and move on.

Educate someone on a new fact. Spread your knowledge!

You learn something new every day! Share it.

Flash a smile at everyone you see today.

It takes more muscles to frown than smile. Your body wants you to do it anyway!

Giggle at what people say even if you don't think it's funny.

If someone makes a joke and you don't get it, just give them some satisfaction.

Hug any person or animal.

Giving people or animals comfort and love is a great thing.

Inspire people to do what they love.

Encourage others to strive. Support and believe in them!

Jubilate.

Make things bright and exciting. Feel the energy!

Keep relationships active.

Reach out to old and new friends! Your network will grow and you will have more fun.

Listen.

When people talk to you, pay attention. A good listener is always highly valued.

Motivate others.

Cheer people on. Anyone can do anything they put their mind to.

Narrate a funny story to make someone laugh.

Laughter is the best medicine, after all.

Offer to do someone a small favor.

If they are overwhelmed, help them out! It makes a world of a difference to people who are busy.

Pamper yourself.

You need to be kind to yourself, too! Buy yourself a face mask. Take a bath. Make some herbal tea. Relax!

Quit any conversation that offends others.

You don't want to be that person who is seen as mean or a gossip. If it's none of your business, it's none of your business.

Radiate passion and love.

A good attitude is very well-received.

Share food and space.

If you make food, share it with a friend! Or, grab a loved one and invite them into your bed or on your couch to snuggle and share your favorite show or movie.

Talk to service workers or employees where you spend time.

Have a simple conversation with the employee that cleans the bathrooms in your dorm. Tell the Wawa employee to have a wonderful day. Thank them.

Urge yourself to be in a better mood.

Even if you are feeling sluggish, try not to take it out on others.

Value people's opinions.

Even if you don't agree, keep an open mind.

Write your roommate/friend/someone special a positive note.

Even a sticky note with a few nice words is so impacting! It brightens someones day.

"X"-out judgmental comments.

Just keep it to yourself. Saying it out loud doesn't change anything.

Yap like a chihuahua when someone is talking to you.

Pay attention and be respectful. Words and body language are everything.

Zig-zag through your home and give everyone one genuine complement.

Even if it is quick, it will perk a person up!

Challenge yourself. Be nice. Be outgoing. Compliment others. Try to do at least one of these actions per day, and the good vibes will keep on coming. It's that simple!

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
