It’s been a little over a year since our favorite outlaws exited our lives, leaving SAMCRO fans questioning what life will be like post- Sons of Anarchy. Thankfully, Netflix has provided all seven seasons of the FX hit series, so we’ll never be fully deprived of heartthrob Jax Teller. Emphasis on heartthrob. And lucky for us, creator Kurt Sutter has plans to keep the story of the Redwood Originals alive for just a little longer with an SOA prequel. Cue the happy tears.
According to Sutter, the prequel will be titled “The First 9” and is expected to be at least 10-12 episodes long, basing it on the earlier days of of the motorcycle club, how it developed, and John Teller, Jax’s deceased father and the original leader of the pack. Sutter envisions the “The First 9” to take place in the 1960’s in historical Vietnam, a very different setting than good old Charming, California.
There have been many negotiations about whether or not this prequel is the best idea, if the timing is right, etc. There's even been speculation that Charlie Hunnam already rejected reprising the role of Jax due to the fact that the prequel will not focus on the original series’ key characters. I’m sure this makes SOA fans a little uneasy, but I personally trust Kurt Sutter. Sons of Anarchy was undoubtedly a show that went above and beyond anything that’s ever been done before, and that’s what made it so intriguing. It was edgy, exciting and dark, yet it had an underlying message of family loyalty and passion that each character brought to the table. I’m sure if this prequel pulls through, it’ll be nothing short of a job well done.
While there is still no confirmation about when the prequel will be released, rumor has it that production will be starting this year, as reported by Christian Today. But for now, let’s not give up hope; this motorcycle ride clearly isn’t over just yet.
