Rain, rain, go away, come again another day….
Why does that song always come to mind when rain starts pouring from the sky? Yes, I agree that rain is not something that I want to come across during an outside graduation, while I am getting ready for senior prom, on my wedding day, or even if I am just running everyday errands, but I personally love rain. I guess I should rephrase that: when rain is convenient, I love rain.
I love that water is used to wash away the dirt of the world as well as to nurture and help flowers, trees, and even weeds grow. Of course, I do not want the rain to continuously pour every day, but I don’t mind being barefoot in the backyard and my feet sinking into the mud a little. And I can’t say that I mind the waves my hair gets because the rain won’t let it lay straight. Rain gives us excuses and sometimes the excuses it gives is not a bad thing. Rain gives us an excuse to take a day to ourselves: curling up with a good book, binging on another Netflix series, sleeping for an extra two hours, or trying out that new recipe you saw on a 30 second video on Facebook. It is currently a torrential downpour at my house in Bethany Beach and I am using the time to listen to the rain drops fall and watch the rings they create in the canal in my backyard, pouring out as many Odyssey articles as I can, knowing that I may be too busy for them later. I am using this time to listen to old songs by Justin Bieber, Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, and Jesse McCartney that I forgot about but still know all of the lyrics to, letting Spotify’s suggested music let me hear even older songs that I never even realized how much I missed. I am using this time to learn every lyric to every Justin Moore song so I can go to his local concert and actually be able to sing along to all of it instead of the couple songs of his that I know now. This time is for me.
Rain is the universe saying, "Good job! You finished another successful week and this gift is for you. Use it well." Now, I may not be using this time well. Maybe I am supposed to be using this time to be productive by cleaning the house and ordering my textbooks for next semester, but I think I can save that for my next gift of a rainy day. I can start a "rainy day check list" for myself and add those bullet points on it for later. You have to prioritize, because rainy days only come once in a blue moon. What lazy day activity do you want to do the most?
So if I have anything to say about it: Rain, rain, please don’t go away. Please stay for the rest of the day.
