My most recent epiphany came to me a few years ago, it was the realization of just how powerful our thoughts are. The realization came to me during a psychology class, when I learned that human consciousness effected the outcome of an experiment. It was empowering on many different levels, and that is when I began working towards creating my life instead of just living it.
Thoughts are tools that most of us take for granted, I know I certainly did. I never really understood the power of thoughts until then, but I am beginning to get a handle on the whole concept. Personal power is the ability to choose what you think about. Perception is formed thought by thought, into belief systems that give us a general outlook on the world at large. I have been changing my perception of things for the purpose of living a better life. Everything I used to complain about in my life, has slowly but assuredly dissolved and gone away. I accomplished this simply by changing the way I thought about those things, and by deciding it was important enough to spend time on tending to my thoughts every day.
Beliefs are formed by thinking about something the same way over and over, until it becomes lodged into our subconscious mind. I have found it easier to work towards making new beliefs, than to try to change old ones. Beliefs affect every aspect of the self, the way you feel, attitudes towards things and people, and your overall outlook on life in general. Whenever I have a bad feeling, or am feeling “down” I immediately turn to my thoughts, and almost always find some screwy thinking at the core of the feeling. Feelings are your body’s way of communicating with you about what is going on under the surface, and can be very helpful guides.
The past couple of years have taken a lot of work, as this kind of change is not easy, but it is simple. If you are interested in making a radical change in your life, start with taking a long hard look at what your daily thoughts entail. Are you thinking about what you want, or what you don’t want? You can choose to think anything you want, so think about what makes you happy. Think about what could be, and focus on the positive not the negative. You may have heard this all before, but putting into practice will change your life.
