Dear White People, You Can't Be Racist Around Me Just Because I'm Also White

White people, this is a wake-up call.

Dear White People, You Can't Be Racist Around Me Just Because I'm Also White

As a white person, I can see that racism is still alive and well, especially in the white community.

I have always been viewed as "sensitive" or "one of those liberal snowflakes" for standing up to fellow white people who are being blatantly — or not so blatantly — racist to my face. It is harder than one would think to stand up to someone within your own race, especially when it comes to telling them why what they are saying is wrong.

I cannot tell you how many people I have had the same "the n-word is not for white people" conversation with. This conversation sadly happens with people who consider themselves "woke," too. There are so many white people who still use it in place of "dude" or "brother" in casual conversation, and they do not understand that it is not a word that they can claim.

I'm usually met with the argument, "Well, I'm not saying it with a hard r!" Well, African American people say it with an "a" to take back the power the word is associated with.

It will always be a negative word in my eyes, but only African Americans are allowed to have that word.

Do not be upset with me when you are racist right in front of my face and I fight back. Saying, "I'm not racist, this is a statistic, but..." will never be a justified argument to me.

Stop pretending you aren't racist when you absolutely are. If you're racist, you're racist. If you were raised racist, it does not mean that you have to stay that way.

The saddest part about this is that I am more often than not around well-educated people who have been exposed to multiple forms of diversity. But they have refused to gain anything from it due to their biases.

Accept the education that you are granted on these topics. Allow it to help your mindset grow. Allow yourself to be diverse.

With all of the police brutality happening in America, along with all of the hate crimes happening in our backyards, why would it be even a little bit OK to still be racist? From race to race, there are so many beautiful things to celebrate and learn from one another. There should be no need to build walls or to self-segregate.

This is all on you, white people. Just because someone has more melanin than you does not mean that they have ulterior motives.

Stop allowing history blind your vision.

If you are a white person who has read this, realized that you do these things and recognizes that it's wrong, join the fight. The sad truth about America is that "white power" is valued. Allies are always essential.

I've known you your entire life. More than likely I held you in the first three days of it and at least one of us cried. Cousins are truly one of the best things in the world and while sometimes I complain about how many people crowd Grandma's living room on Christmas Eve, I wouldn't trade you all anything.

You are my best friends, the only people who can understand what it's like on Thanksgiving, and you are the spunkiest people I have ever met. But you as so so young, most of you are just now starting your adventures in the public education system. I mean, I'm so very young too. I'm not married, I don't have children, heck, I just started my adult life, but I do want to give you what little advice I have. My dears, these are the things I want you to know.

You are a senior in high school, you have made it to the final year that you have been looking forward to since the first day of freshman year. Whether this has been the worst or best four years of your life, appreciate it. You will never have these times back, you will never be in high school again. It is hard for someone still in high school to wrap their brain around, but there will be a day when you wish you could be in the shoes you're in right now. Here are 15 things I have learned being in college that I wish I knew as a high school senior:

Many people think that this show is the best thing they've ever watched and others won't bother watching it because they know they'll get hooked. Trust me, once you start "One Tree Hill", you will be hooked. There's way too many reasons to list as to why you'll love this show, and these are just a few.

The first two weeks of classes have come to an end and they have been anything BUT easy. It seems like life has been serving up more bad than good and in all honesty, the only thing you want to do is crawl under your covers and hide from the rest of the world.

Although this seems like the best solution, it is also the easy way out. Take it from the girl who took basically a whole week off from her life because she just could not handle everything that was being thrown at her. This caused her to feel extremely lonely and even more stressed out for being behind in classes that JUST began.
