It is 2018. There are a thousand elephants in the room. Michael Cohen's tapes. Trump's crazy tweets getting us in World War III. BUT, what about the biggest elephant in the room that has been here since 1776?
I'll give you a second. Yup, racism.
Two major murders happened this week. Two innocent lives lost right in front of their loved ones. In front of the public. Caught on camera.
Nia Wilson. A high school senior.
Markeis McGlockton. A father of three.
Nia Wilson, her attacker a white man that was on the run until the police gently arrested him. Hm, didn't the shooter of the Charleston church also get arrested gently? Hell, the mass murderer got a burger!
Markeis McGlockton, his murderer is going to get away with it because Florida has a racist law embedded in their criminal laws. "Stand Your Ground," when in reality it should be called a "Racist Hunting Permit."
I am not going to cite the murderers' names because they do not deserve to have their names around for everyone to remember. Instead, we need to remember Markeis McGlockton. Nia Wilson. Trayvon Martin. Sandra Bland. Eric Gardner. Michael Brown. Emmett Till. Tamir Rice. Freddie Gray.
We need to #SayTheirNames because they are as much human as we are. They suffered untimely deaths due to their murderers' racist beliefs. No, it is not about video games. It is not about mental health. It is about this ridiculous belief that the white race is superior.
We need to decolonize our minds. We need to rise against this mayhem united as an American society. We need to say their names. Tell their accurate stories! The media always chooses the worst images that they can find when in reality, they are predominantly innocent lives. Enough with trying to get the most views, what if it was your child? Because truth is, if you are a person of color in America, your chances of being killed by a white counterpart is ridiculously high.
I am tired. The United States please change. I believe in you.
