This past Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell silenced Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren when she was barred from speaking on the Senate floor. McConnell told reporters, "Senator Warren was giving a lengthy speech. She had appeared to violate the rule. She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted." Since then, millions of people across the country have come to Warren's defense, taking to social media and reclaiming the last three words of McConnell's statement. Rather than insinuating that female persistence is bad and needs to be shut down, the internet used the Senate Majority Leader's words as a way of celebrating strong, persistent women, both past and present. Here are some quotes from women who "nevertheless ... persisted."

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated.
