It seems like after a break up, girls love to torture themselves with sad movies, songs and episodes of a television show. Yes, most of the time the quotes and situations are so relatable it makes you feel like you're not alone. Watching and listening to these things only remind you of the hurt that you're experiencing, so here's a list of those relatable things and how to overcome them.
1. Brooke Davis to Luke Scott, "One Tree Hill"
We all want this to happen, but it never does. This is the idea in every girl's mind that we assume will happen and we get crushed when it doesn't. But you know what? You don't need someone to fight for you. Fight for yourself.
2. Bella Swan to Jacob Black, "New Moon"
Jacob is trying to show Bella real love and she can't accept it because she is so hurt from Edward leaving her. We all feel like this fresh after a break up, that we'll never run right, but you will. It just takes time. Don't be like Bella and get back with Edward after he did this to her, by the way.
3. Rachel Green to Ross Geller, "Friends"
Whenever they move on it hurts the most, or if you get cheated on, it's the worst. Rachel is upset with Ross because he was with another girl while they were fighting. We all feel like Rachel when you just can't stop thinking about the situation, but a way to overcome this is to start picturing stuff you can do now that you're not with him. By the way, it's totally a rebound and you rock and are so much better.
4. Avril Lavigne, "When You're Gone"
When you were with someone for so long, you make a lot of memories. In this song, Avril is singing about missing him and how she didn't expect to miss him this much. It's hard to go to the places you guys used to go and listen to those songs that remind you of him, but make those memories with new people. Go to those places with your best friends and make them happy, jam to those songs with them and love your life. Don't stop living it just because you feel heartbreak everywhere you go.
5. Elena Gilbert to Stefan Salvatore, "The Vampire Diaries"
Whenever he's so cold and all you want to do is get something out of him and cry, we all feel like Elena. But truthfully, he's feeling it too. It might not be on the same level or at the same time as you, but it will happen. Best part? By the time it really hits him you will be moved on with your Damon Salvatore.
6. Sam Hunt, "Break Up In A Small Town"
For those of you that live in a small town after a breakup, this song is relatable on all levels. You literally can't escape him or him with his new girl. Seeing them hurts and it is hard, but when you see them, look happy and look good. There is no better revenge than being successful and happy.
7. Taylor Swift, "White Horse"
Girls always plan and daydream in their heads about the future. You feel like these things are actual reality, so when it gets taken away from you, it is like you have to figure out your life all over again. He let you down, but you can make new dreams. And instead of having them focus on a boy, make dreams for yourself.
8. Katy Perry, "Thinking of You"
In this song, Katy is singing about being with another man and thinking about the one that she really loves. Being with other people might numb the pain, but it won't make it go away. But guess what? He told you to move on, so you have to. He won't be the best you will have. You will have someone who will make him second best.
9. Serena Van der Woodsen to Dan Humphrey, "Gossip Girl"
It's like everyone expects you to be okay and over him just because you broke up. If the feelings were real, it doesn't work like that. It could take weeks, months, maybe even years. I promise, even if he's acting like he doesn't love you, he probably still does if the feelings were real. It's okay to not be over him, but it's not okay to stop living your life because you still love him. Put yourself out there and have fun.
10. Meredith Grey to Derek Shepherd, "Grey's Anatomy"
We all tend to beg for a second chance and for him. And often we get the "(insert name ...)" response which then makes us feel stupid. Stop begging. He's not worth it. "He might be dreamy, but he is not the sun, you are."
