Summer is ending and the Fall semester is right around the corner. It is time to mentally prepare yourself for getting back to a school schedule, writing papers, studying, working, and trying to keep a social life. It's a lot to handle and it can feel so overwhelming that you feel like giving up. Here are some wise words to keep in mind when you need that extra push in the right direction.
If you don’t know Ronda Rousey by now, well I’m happy you're reading this. Ronda Rousey is the first woman MMA fighter to be in the UFC, and continues to be the undefeated Bantamweight Champion. She is an Olympic medalist, and the most motivating and determined person I can think of. She says to not think small of yourself, there are millions of other people out there chasing their dreams and working hard so why not you? Aim high, always do your best, and be proud of your effort. College is your time to explore and make things happen for you, so shake off the doubt and just ask yourself, why not you?
This quote is from my favorite movie, "Into The Wild." No, it is not suggesting you steal and take what you want. This is a reminder to yourself, to set goals and achieve them! If you really want something in life, such as graduating on time, buying your own car, landing an internship, getting all A’s this semester, its up to you to work for it! Set your mind to something and don’t limit yourself. If you really want it, go after it!
This is an important one. In college we are so consumed by trying to please others such as our parents, friends, and significant others that sometimes we lose focus and get off track because we are too concerned about what others think. I’m a strong believer that if you stay true to yourself and keep your goals in mind, then the right people will come along and will be in your life. Do what makes you happy, keep your focus and if things are meant to be, they will be.
Lastly, this is straightforward and to the point. Be a good person, make good choices, don’t lose hope, stay positive, take care of yourself, and be a go-getter. These are the years that are shaping you into the person you will be, in the real world, after graduation, so take risks, find what makes you happy, and be the best you can be at it.
