I am an English nerd, alway have been, always will be.
There's something about the way that writers are able to describe and perfectly depict the deepest feelings and the most descriptive scenes that just really speaks to my soul. There are few things in this world that are as great as curling up with a book and a good cup of coffee and losing track of time because you are so focused on the words on the page. And while there are countless memorable and remarkable quotes from all of the literature that exists, I decided to compile a small collection of my absolute favorites. These are the quotes that speak to my soul, and remind me everyday why literature is so important, and how much it can teach us about the life happening all around us.
1. "Everything was beautiful, and nothing hurt," - Kurt Vonnegut, Slaughterhouse-Five
2. "All that we see or seem, is but a dream within a dream" - Edgar Allen Poe, A Dream Within a Dream
3. "Write it on your heart that everyday is the best day of the year"- Ralph Waldo Emerson, Write it on Your Heart
4. "I love her. And that's the beginning and end of everything"- F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
5. "We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars" - Oscar Wilde, Lady Windermere's Fan
6. "Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it is thinking of yourself less" - C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity
7. "It isn't what we say or think that defines us, but what we do." - Jane Austen, Sense and Sensibility
8. "What is the point of being alive if you don't at least try to do something remarkable?" - John Green, Looking for Alaska
9. "The best portion of a good man's life are his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love" - William Wordsworth, Lyrical Ballads
10. "Doubt that the stars are fire; Doubt that the sun doth move; Doubt truth to be a liar; But never doubt that I love" - William Shakespeare, Hamlet
11. "You're going to come across people in your life who will say all the right words at all the right times. But in the end, it's always their actions you should judge them by. It's actions, not words, that matter" - Nicholas Sparks, The Rescue
12. "I guess that's the point of it all. No one knows for certain how much of an impact they have on the lives of other people" - Jay Asher, Thirteen Reasons Why
13. "He's more myself than I am. Whatever souls are made of, his and mine are the same." - Emily Bronte, Wuthering Heights
14. "It's not that I believe everything happens for a reason. I just think that some things are meant to be broken. Imperfect. Chaotic. It's the universe's way of providing contrast. There have to be a few holes in the road. It's how life is." - Sarah Dessen, The Truth About Forever
15. "For what it's worth: it's never too late or, in my case too early to be whoever you want to be. There's no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules in this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things that you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you're proud of. If you find that you're not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again." - Eric Roth, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Now I'm sitting here having all the feelings, and will likely get lost in the internet looking for more books to read and quotes to live by. Literature makes us think and feel in a way that can't be found anywhere else and quotes like these always help me to remember why that is so important.
