7 Quotes For Every Book Lover

My entire life people have given me weird looks when I say that I read a lot in my free time. In a generation that is Netflix obsessed, being a reader is a rarity. I love binge watching a TV show series on Netflix just as much as the next person, but I love reading a whole lot more. It can be extremely hard explaining to someone who hates reading why I love books so much. So, I found seven quotes that describe why I love reading better than I can.

Reading allows you to travel to different worlds through the eyes of someone else. When you get sucked into a good book, for a few hours, your reality does not exist. Only the reality of the book exists.

I am an only child, books gave me friends when I was lonely and no one else was around. Books are always there. They never go away.

You can learn so much by reading, whether you read fiction or nonfiction. Books can teach you anything and everything.

Being stuck in one place can really suck. Feeling trapped is a horrible feeling, no matter the reason. Books take that problem away without you actually having to go anywhere. You can go to another state, country, or even another world. There is no limit on the places and adventures books can take you on.

Reading exercises the mind. It stretches its capabilities. Books challenge the brain. It isn't always fun, depending on how hard the book is, but when you finish you feel that much better. Just like exercising, sometimes it really sucks, but you know your body is better for it when you're done.

Words are powerful. Just think about how what someone says about you, good or bad, affects you. It can make or break your day. Books have the power to affect us like that as well. Books can make you question things that you have believed your entire life. They can open your eyes to things you have never even considered important.

When you find a really good book(s), it is easy to get lost inside its pages. You lose all sense of time and reality. Getting sucked into a book is one of the best feelings in the world, because you forget about reality for a while. Your problems don't exist anymore. Sometimes, when you finally finish that book, you realize that your life isn't so far off from what was happening in the book. You realize how much of yourself was in that main character. You see yourself inside the story. That makes the experience of reading that much more powerful- losing and finding yourself in the same place.

Books can take you on adventures far from home and they can help you find yourself on that adventure. That's what makes books so special to me and all the other book lovers out there.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
