First things first. That is the first and last time I will ever do that. Not because I experienced withdrawal symptoms like raging headaches or extreme crankiness (I allowed myself tea so I could have some kind of caffeine). It was more a pleasure of life issue. I LOVE coffee. And, yes, I am the first to admit that I am addicted to it. Because of this, there are a few reasons I will NEVER give it up again.
I will not get anything done how I want.
I realized that I get much more done when I drink coffee. Any to-do lists or errands get done immediately when I’m filled with coffee.
My days become a little more sad without coffee.
My coffee habit started young, and it’s just gotten worse. Not having coffee truly affects my mood. Even where I work everyone drinks coffee, and just smelling it makes me want to have a cup (I do now that this detox is over!).
Tea is NOT coffee.
As much as I love tea, it will never replace my one true love. COFFEE.
Coffee just tastes good.
Can’t we just enjoy things for the pleasure itself sometimes? Is that too much to ask?!
Coffee is actually good for you.
Researchers have found even more evidence that coffee can be good for you. People who drink regular, moderate amounts of coffee are less likely to die from a range of diseases, from diabetes to heart disease.
Coffee just puts me in a good mood.
Isn’t an upbeat, active human being more fun?
However, while doing this, I did realize that I’m fighting against a symptom of the underlying real problem.
Drinking coffee became such a need for me because I wanted to keep working and to feel productive. Keeping myself at top performance and actually being productive is a function of my organization, methods, and also getting enough sleep. Since I did not focus on getting enough sleep and sometimes even organization, my method was a simple 3 step process:
- Procrastinate.
- Drink a lot of coffee.
- Cram everything into one night; (excluding studying for a test).
After discovering the main cause of my coffee addition, I focused on getting organized and coming to the amazing “revelation” that when you’re body tells you that it’s tired, it’s not saying – drink more coffee!
I am happy to announce that I’m going to TRY to reduce my coffee consumption to 1-2 cups a day. Because let’s be honest, I could never give up coffee completely.
