My Quiet Times About The Mind In Christ

I'm trying to consider God in all that I do.

I sat across from this wise lady at Panera. She got tea with me upon my request.

The last several times I had seen her, I was in a frantic, emotional state.

This time that me met, it was rather peaceful with talks of politics, social issues, and simply life as well as Jesus Christ.

As we were wrapping up our hour long conversation, she pulls out an index card with verses on it. Verses about the mind.

Throughout the next two weeks, I decided to do a verse out of the list of verses as well as the whole chapter that went with the verse daily until I went through the whole list.

My practice would be to think of things only of the spirit when making decisions for the flesh.

In my affection for my audience and desire to be vulnerable as well as encouraging, I have decided to share each verse of the mind as well as a prayer I wrote each day I did my quiet time. I will not change, alter, or make my prayers look better than what they were. However, I may not share my entire prayer on some, because some of it might be too personal or break confidentiality of those I prayed for.

Also, not all prayers are exactly related to the verse.

Day 1

"For the mind-set of the flesh is death, but the mind-set of the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind-set of the flesh is hostile to God because it does not submit itself to God's law, for it is unable to do so. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God." -- Romans 8:6-8

Dear Heavenly Father,

Please forgive me for my sins. Please renew my mind and help me to not only walk in the Spirit, but to also think in the Spirit. Change my way of life and make my will align with Your's. Help me walk with You today. Amen.

Day 2

"But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no plans to satisfy the fleshly desires." -- Romans 13:14

Dear Heavenly Father,

I thank You for this day. I thank You for this experience. I praise You for everything You do, Lord. Today I pray for my friend and her heart as I meet with her again. I pray that I be bold in my affection for her and love her well. Please guide me and my words. Humble me and make me know that the love I have to offer is from You. I love You. Amen.

Day 3

"Don't be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God." -- Romans 12:2

Dear Heavenly Father,

I thank You for this day. Thank You for everything. I pray that my friend and I have the mindset of Christ and are bold when handing out granola bars today. Please be with us. Amen.

Day 4

"Do nothing out of rivalry or conceit, but in humility consider others more important than yourselves." -- Philippians 2:3

Dear Heavenly Father,

Today, I am not feeling my quiet time. I pray that you wake up my mind and open my heart to You. Please make me aware of your presence. I love You. Amen.

Day 5

"Set your minds on what is above, not on what is on earth." -- Colossians 3:2

Dear Heavenly Father,

I thank You for this day. I pray that Your word continues to remain in me and that I continue to remain in You. I pray for the conversations that I have with my friend and that we converse in peace. Please don't let me doubt. Hold my heart in Your hands, Father, and don't let me go. I pray for this time in Your word and that it allows me to understand You and Your character more. I love You. Amen.

Day 6

"Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable- if there is any moral excellence and if there is any praise- dwell on these things." -- Philippians 4:8

Dear Heavenly Father,

I pray that I take Your word to heart and that I take You in as much as possible. I love You so much. In Your name I pray. Amen. Oh! And I love You!

Day 7

"You will keep the mind that is dependent on You in perfect peace, for it is trusting in You." -- Isaiah 26:12

Dear Heavenly Father,

I pray that Your word would speak to me and that I would practice it in my life. I love You. Amen.

Day 8

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind." -- Matthew 22:37

Dear Heavenly Father,

I feel anxious about doing my quiet time. Please calm my heart. Help me walk the narrow path and don't let my thoughts go astray. I love You, Lord. Amen.

Day 9

"Be in agreement with one another. Do not be proud; instead, associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own estimation." -- Romans 12:16

Dear Heavenly Father,

I pray for willpower and that I will have the strength to say "no" to the things of the flesh. Please continue to dwell in my heart. Please be with me. I love You. Amen.

Day 10

"For though we live in the body, we do not wage war in an unspiritual way, since the weapons of our warfare are not worldly, but are powerful through God for the demolition of strongholds. We demolish arguments and every high-minded thing that is raised up against the knowledge of God, taking every thought captive to obey Christ." - 2 Corinthians 10:3-5

Dear Heavenly Father,

Please help me to not be anxious and just focus on You and Your word. I love You. Amen.

Day 11

"Therefore, with your minds ready for action, be serious and set your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ." -- 1 Peter 1:13

Dear Heavenly Father,

Don't let me be anxious about anything, but in everything through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let my requests be made known to You. Thank You that my anxiety causes me to depend on You more. I love You. Amen.

Sorority

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
