Whether you've had a long day at work or just haven't been able to put your mind at ease lately, a little R&R might be exactly what you need at the moment. I've listed a few tips and tricks that usually always help me achieve that peace of mind and state of relaxation. Taking time once a week to cross a few things off this list may just be the pick-me-up you didn't even realize you needed.

1. Straighten up your room.

Simply putting everything back where it belongs and doing a quick vacuum is all it takes. Knowing in the back of your mind that your room is messy often causes stress without even realizing it. However, waking up to a mess-free room makes for a great start to the day.

2. Make a list.

I am the queen of lists. I make them every week during the school year. Once in a while in the summer I make a list of all of the things I need and want to get done for the week. I always have a million different things running through my head of what I should do. For me, seeing all my thoughts written down on a sheet of paper is a lot more convenient and definitely puts my mind at ease.

3. Pamper yourself.

When you get home or when your day is nearing the end, take a long shower. Shave your legs, do a conditioning treatment or a body scrub. When you're finished, lotion up everywhere, put your hair in a towel, slip into a cozy robe, throw on a face mask and paint your nails. That's my favorite way to end the day.

4. Watch a favorite show or movie.

After you pamper yourself, sit back, relax and wait for your nails to dry while watching a show or movie you recorded. Make yourself a cup of tea while you're at it.

5. Read before bed.

Sometimes reading is just what you need to clear your head and take your mind off of the stresses of the day. Indulge in the alternate world of a good book in the comfort of your own bed.

6. Go to bed early.

For me this is extremely important. If I'm in bed in time to get a full 8-10 hours of sleep, the following day is 10 times more productive and not to mention bearable. Get in the routine of going to bed early and waking up at a reasonable time to get the day started.

It may be summer, but everyone experiences a little stress now and then. Don't forget to take care of yourself every now and then in the midst of your busy life.
