Never underestimate the power of a mocktail.
What is a mocktail? It is a fun non-alcoholic alternative to a cocktail, think Shirley Temple (Sprite and grenadine garnished with a maraschino cherry). As a kid, Shirley Temples can help you feel a little more adult. They're a fun alternative to just water or soda when out to dinner with the family.
But many people don't realize how important mocktails can be for many adults, including:
1. Pregnant people
2. Recovering Alcoholics
3. Adults below the legal drinking age
4. People with chronic illnesses that prevent them from drinking
5. Designated drivers
6. People on medication that reacts negatively to alcohol
7. People with religious beliefs that prevent them from drinking
So with this long list of people that would enjoy having mocktails, it's surprising how few restaurants offer them.
It's always disappointing being out with people who are drinking when you aren't and seeing the waiter bring out these gorgeous drinks with umbrellas and orange slices on the brim and practically sparklers shooting off of them— when you just have a glass of water.
However, there are a handful of restaurants that offer some pretty sweet mocktails.
1. PF Chang's- coconut cooler and strawberry cucumber limeade
2. Red Robin - poppin' purple lemonade and others
3. (Lexington Local!) Blue Sushi- various mocktails
To sum things up, Mocktails aren't just for kids anymore.
