With a range extender, you can extend your Wi-Fi coverage to every corner of your house. This can be especially useful if you have a large home or are planning to use the internet on multiple devices at once. To get started with your new device, first and foremost, you'll want to verify that your range extender has been configured correctly. It's easy, just follow these steps:
Know What the Lights on Extender Mean
To help you get the most out of your Brostrend extender setup, here's a breakdown of what the LED lights on your device mean. The LEDs will flash red and yellow when there is not enough power to run it properly. Or if it is not receiving an internet signal from the router. Try plugging an Ethernet cable into your modem and router, then plugging that cable into your extender to see if that fixes the problem. You can also try using another cable.
If so, go back on the instructions on how to set up a wireless connection between two devices without using Wi-Fi. In case, all else fails, try restarting both devices by unplugging them from their respective power sources for 30 seconds before plugging them back in again and trying again with step two above
Reset Your Device
If you are having trouble verifying your device configuration, the first thing to do is reset it. To reset your device, follow these steps:
- Turn off the extender by pressing and holding its power button for 5 seconds. Wait 30 seconds before turning it on again (the LED light will turn solid blue).
- Plug the extender into an outlet and wait until you see a solid blue LED light (this may take 2 minutes). If this does not work, try plugging in another device to the extender and waiting for 30 seconds before unplugging it again.
Fix For My Device won't Connect to the Internet
If your device won't connect to the internet, there are a few things you can do:
- Check that your device has a good internet connection by testing it with another device or computer.
- Check your smartphone's Wi-Fi settings by following these steps:
a) Open Settings on your smartphone or tablet and tap on "Wi-Fi." This will display all of the Wi-Fi networks nearby; check that yours is turned on and select it to join as usual (if necessary). If this doesn't work, contact your provider for further assistance
- Update the extender's firmware using the instructions through re.brostrend.com or the settings portal of your extender.
Solution For Cannot Find the WiFi on my Phone.
If you're unable to locate the WiFi from your extender on your phone, there are two possible reasons. The first is that the WiFi name is not unique and matches one of the other devices in range. If this is the case, try changing its name:
- On iOS devices: Settings > Wi-Fi > tap (i) next to your extender's network name > tap Modify Network and change any parts that match another device's name
- On Android phones: Settings > Wireless & networks > tap (i) next to your extender's network name > tap Modify Network and change any parts that match another device's name
If you're still unable to connect, it may be because your router isn't broadcasting its own SSID. In this case, try entering "Telus_Extend" into the SSID field when connecting to an open channel; most manufacturers use this default terminology for their models as well so it should work with any standard router brand on offer today!
Fix - I Cannot Connect to the Extender's Network.
- If you've forgotten your password, go to the setup screen and tap on "Enter password."
- Make sure that your router is connected to your extender's network. If it isn't, try turning off the router and then restarting it.
- Check that your extender has a connection to the internet by looking at its Wi-Fi settings. If it does not have a connection, make sure that there are no obstacles between your extender and the nearest Wi-Fi router (for example, walls). This will decrease its overall range.
To Recap on LED Indications
The LED lights on your extender exert a lot about your current connection. Here's an overview of each colour and what it means:
Red light: This indicates that the extender is connected to your router with a good signal, but there are no clients currently connected to it.
Green light: As long as the green light is on, you’re in luck! Your Wi-Fi network will be secure and safe from intruders.
Orange/yellow light: If this light is flashing or solid orange or yellow, there may be an issue with your network range, so try moving the extender closer to where you need coverage and then try to connect again.
Conclusion
The LED lights on your extender express a lot about your current connection. You can tell whether the device is connected to the internet, whether it has been reset, and more. If you need to access these features, simply follow our instructions above.
