11 Questions Psychology Majors Are Tired Of Hearing
Tahoma School District

Psychology is a major that for some reason has a certain stigma with it. People think anyone could be a Psych major and its not hard. They believe that you go around constantly analyzing people. If you're like me and you love being a psych major you probably also love telling people that your a psych major. I know some of the questions friends, families, and strangers have asked are ridiculous! I get it, some people really just don't know and are genuinely curious. I have heard these 11 questions a handful of times and wanted to share the answers.

1. So, like, what are you going to do with THAT?

Hmm you know I'm not sure. Probably not ANYTHING that has to do with psychology!

2. You know you're not going to make any money, right?

OH WOW! THANK YOU! Maybe I should let you know that I'm not doing this just for money but you should probably also know that many jobs in the field make great money.

3. CAN YOU READ MY MIND?!

No. I do not have super powers. If you want your mind to be read go to a fortune teller and stop asking these ridiculous questions.

4. Are you a psych major because, you know, its easy?

Psych major and easy shouldn't be in the same sentence. Have you taken Biopsychology? Social Psychology? Oh then you must have taken Neuropsychology, right? Can you tell me what the different lobes are and where they are located? No? I didn't think so.

5. Don't you need to get your Doctorate?

Personally I plan on getting mine but I promise there are PLENTY of jobs that do not require a Doctorate such as a School Counselor who only needs a Masters.

6. Aren't you going to go crazy dealing with peoples problems all the time?

That's kind of rude. I'm not "dealing" with peoples problems. I'm giving them ways to cope, ways to help their anxieties and fears, and I'm someone to listen to them when they may think they may not have anyone else to go to.

7. Why would you even WANT to be a Psychology major?

...because I want a job in the field of psychology? I guess that isn't a good enough answer for you though.

8. Can you diagnose me right now?

I'm not currently a trained professional psychologist so the answer is no. No I cannot. Find me in a few years once I've gone through all my schooling and maybe I can help. Maybe.

9. Are you sure that's definitely what you want to do in life?

Take a moment and think about that. Do you really think I'd be studying a subject for two years now if it wasn't what I wanted to do in life?

10. Well, you have your own problems how are you even going to deal with other peoples?

Again with the word "deal". Even if I had my own problems you don't bring them into the office. Being professional is required for any job including Psychologist.

11. Do you even get any homework? I feel like you don't really seem busy?

*Eye twitch* Maybe we don't get a lot of written homework but we aren't passing any of our classes by just going to lecture. We have to do the assigned reading and thats still homework.

So for all you non-psych majors out there I promise this wasn't made to attack you at all! I may have used some sarcasm when answering the questions but it was all for a good cause! For you psych majors trust me I know EXACTLY how you feel. We're all in this together.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.
