After a long, stressful, and exciting semester students return home for a much-needed vacation. When we come home for winter break, we are often bombarded with questions. Here is a list of 18 questions that everyone has been asked.

1. How’s school?

This question is asked by your parents, siblings, neighbors, friends. The answer is always the same--”school is good.” I mean how do people expect you to answer the question in a timely fashion? The semester was four months long, and a lot of things happened.

2. Do you like your professors?

There were some good ones and some weird ones. But I cannot complain, all my professors had a lot of passion for what they were teaching and they cared about their students.

3. How were your finals?

I cannot even begin to describe the stressful situation that is finals. But I won’t worry you about the lack of sleep and lack of proper food, so instead I will tell you they were “good.”

4. What are you majoring in?

I am doing a dual degree in journalism and marketing. But college is the time for exploring, so my major might change.

5. Do you have a boyfriend?

Mothers, aunts, and grandmothers are very intrigued with the boys I’ve met at college.

6. Do a lot of people party at your school?

Um.. it’s college. Enough said.

7. What do you do on the weekends?

I am fortunate enough to go to a school in a big city, so there are so many things to do. Weekends can be spent shopping, going to a baseball game, or eating at a restaurant.

8. How is your roommate?

I am lucky enough to have a very considerate and friendly roommate, who I know will always be there for me.

9. Did you gain weight?

I hope not. But with the all you can eat ice cream in the dining hall and Domino's delivery service at your fingertips, it is hard to resist.

10. Have you used the gym yet?

I have! Can you tell?

11. How is the food?

The food is nothing compared to your food mom.

12. Did you make a lot of friends?

I met a lot of cool people that I cannot wait to see again in January.

13. What do you miss about Jersey/ your home state?

I love you Boston, but your pizza and your bagels suck.

14. Do you miss home?

Of course, I miss home! But I also miss my college life.

15. Can you drive your sibling to (insert various locations such as band practice/school)?

Being home and having a license makes you the next taxi driver for the family. You being home allows for your parents to take a break from driving your siblings to school, band, and taekwondo practice.

16. Did you miss us?

Of course I miss you guys. When I am off at college, I am constantly thinking of my parents, my dog, and my friends.

17. Who did you miss the most?

If pizza were a person, I would miss him the most.

18. When is your next break?

I’ll be back before you know it.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
