9 Questions I Have For Las Vegas
Dr. Odd

Some of us have lived here our entire lives, and even more have only spent a fraction of their time living in Sin City. All of my nineteen years have been spent in this town, and, personally, I’ve loved it here - though I know not everyone feels the same way.

Nevertheless, when you’ve lived in Vegas long enough, you think of some questions about the city and what it’s like to live here - many of which will probably never be answered, but are fun to think about anyways… Let’s begin!

1. Why do people hate it here so much? I’ve always felt like Vegas has a nice balance between suburb and city life, leaving people to let loose on the Strip or stay on its outskirts, or both!

2. Why does it feel like all of the nation’s worst drivers somehow ended up in one of the busiest cities in the country?

3. Why isn’t there more stuff for people under 21 to do in this town without it being a lot of work and inexpensive? Fun should be cheap and easy.

4. Why on EARTH did MGM close their theme park before I ever had the chance to go there?! At least we still have the Adventure Dome.

5. Are we ever going to get a thrilling and exciting video game that takes place in Vegas? Every other major city in the world seems to have one. (Fallout: New Vegas was loosely inspired by many famous landmarks from all around the Mojave, but I would love to have something that’s, like, not post-apocalyptic!)

6. What is it like to experience an actual winter, where the weather drops below fifty degrees and it’s considered normal?

7. Can we get a repeat of the 2008 snowstorm? That was the best day of my life.

8. Who’s excited to finally have a professional sports team represent our town?! I know I am… Raider Nation, here we come!!!

9. Who came up with the name “Sin City?” It’s a pretty cool title, if you ask me. Very scandalous.

Whether you love it or hate it here, it's where you are, so you might as well make the best of it!

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
