Questions About Me-Stephanie
Beth Cardwell

You can really learn a lot about a writer based on their style of writing and what they write about. But this week my group of writers here at Odyssey was tasked to do something completely different. Here are some questions and answers so you can get to know a little bit more about me!

How would your best friends describe you?

My best friends would probably say I'm weird but I'm a good friend. I'm constantly laughing or trying to make other people laugh.

Tell me ten things I would see when I walk into your room?

The ten things you would see when you walk into my room would be all of the crazy pictures of friends and other things I'm obsessed with (I have two Bo Burnham posters). My bed, a pile of clothes, my purple chair, bookshelf, my laptop, headphones, my dolphin PillowPet and probably a mess of some kind.

What are three random facts to know about you?

I'm pretty short, 5'1. My nickname is Stooph (I guess Steph is too boring). I have an addiction to hot wings.

What teacher or professor most impacted your life and why?

I had a sociology professor my first semester of college whose class I really enjoyed. He talked to us like we were real people and not just students. He also opened my eyes to a lot of issues going on in the world.

Why did you choose to create content with Odyssey?

I have always loved writing and Odyssey is a great opportunity to any and all ideas to life through writing. And writing about whatever I want is super cool!

What motivates you to continue creating content for Odyssey?

The awesome community of writers that I have had the opportunity to connect with definitely keeps me motivated, and one of my good friends is the editor-in-chief!

What are you majoring in and why did you choose that field?

I am a communications/journalism major at Shippensburg University and I chose that field because I love to write and I'm hoping to do something with public relations one day.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

In five years I will hopefully have a job that I like because I will have graduated college by then. I want to live in my own place and own my own dog, too!

Who’s your personal hero? Why?

My mom is my personal hero. She really is the best mom. I can tell her everything and she's been there for me through every crazy moment of my life.

What animal best represents you and why?

A puppy? I really like puppies. They're super cute.

If you could live through any historical event when/ what would it be and why?

Probably the day women got the right to vote. I think that would be very cool to experience. Also the moon landing, because it would be awesome to be one of the first people to see what the moon really looks like.

Is your childhood dream job the same as your current dream job? Explain.

When I was little I wanted to be the president, now, I'd my dream job would probably be a speechwriter. Maybe one day I'll write speeches for the president, but that is a pretty big dream!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
