As you may or may not know, I am going to a state school in the lovely state of New York. Whenever I tell people I'm from Florida, I get many questions. Here are a few of them.
1. So you live close to Disney?
Um, no. I live four hours from Disney so it is a bit of a drive, but it is better than driving. I know people that have annual passes to all the theme parks but I didn't. I know the drive is worth it.
2. The weather is nice, right?
I live in a small town in Fort Lauderdale, so if 90-degree temperatures and over 80 percent humidity is beautiful, then yes. Humidity is the worst and I would be sweating less than five minutes after leaving my house. Any day that it gets into the 60s or 70s is a day with beautiful weather.
3. So you must go to the beach everyday, right?
I personally live 20 miles from the beach, but traffic gives it a 40-minute car ride from my house. Also, I'm not a fan of the beach and it is a big hassle. It is fun to go in the water and collect shells, but for all the work, it isn't worth it. I probably go once or twice a year.
4. Is it true Publix is the GOAT?
Yes! Publix makes the best subs, too. For those who don't know what Publix is, it is a supermarket in Florida that is simply amazing. You know who a true Floridian is when they have a strong love for Publix.
5. Do you ride an alligator to school?
Nope! In some areas, it's not uncommon to see an alligator in your backyard. To be honest, being that I lived so close to the Everglades, I'm shocked I didn't see one in my backyard.
6. Is it true the North and South are different?
Yes! The North is like Southern Georgia and the South is a melting pot of people from mostly Central America, South America, the Caribbean, Northerners, and whoever else.
7. Are Floridians really bad drivers?
Yes, especially in Miami. There seems to always be an accident on the Palmetto Expressway. So if you're driving here, check the traffic and be careful. Drivers in Florida can be so rude.
10. Where are some cool places to visit other than Orlando?
Naples, St. Augustine, Cape Canaveral, and Tallahassee.
