Coming home from college for winter break has its ups and downs. It usually consists of catching up on sleep, missing your college friends, eating great food, and spending lots of time at home. Here are some common questions most college students can relate to over Christmas break:
Are your final grades up?
Ah, the talk about school. The one thing you really can’t stand about college and the one thing you can’t wait to get away from, yet you must talk about with your parents because it’s important and the whole reason you’re attending a college…right?
When will you be back tonight?
You get used to being on your own and being in charge of yourself. No one's in charge of you, you leave when you want and come back when you want at school. You don’t have to report to anyone, except when you’re at home because you live with your parents and you are under their roof, so they deserve to know I guess.
What time did you get up this morning?
This is something I always hear. When I’m at school, I never sleep in and I always stay up late. I’m so much more comfortable and relaxed at home I could sleep all day, and sometimes I do. But, that's okay to do because break consists of catching up on sleep.
What’d you do all day today?
Usually, the answer is nothing. I hung out on the couch all day and watched TV or Netflix. I got up a couple times to go to the bathroom and eat. It’s time for a break, I never get to do this at school, so it’s okay to do nothing all day sometimes, right?
Netflix: Are you still watching?
Constantly having Netflix running is a normal occurrence. Most of us can relate to this common Netflix question.
What do you want to eat?
It’s nice to be home and not have to worry about living off of Ramen and Mac n’Cheese. It’s nice to have better options and have home cooked meals when you’re home.
Although school, is fun and it’s nice being on your own, I can appreciate time home even more now that I live away. Even though it isn’t the same as being at school, it’s nice to be back with your parents, even if they do care about everything you do. They love that you’re home even more than you do, so enjoy it while it lasts.
