I started watching "Queer Eye," when I was in a bit of a depressive funk, some pretty horrible things had been going on in my life, and I needed an escape. An escape from reality, something to transport me into a world where things were fine and happy.
Throughout the two released seasons, we see the transformation of multiple throughout the greater Atlanta area, as well as learn different techniques about how we can all improve different aspects of our lives.
First, we have Jonathan Van Ness, hair expert to the stars. Jonathan's outgoing personality is enough to bring a smile to anyone's face no matter what mood they are in. He teaches men and women of all ages different small things that they can do to maintain and upkeep their skincare and haircare routine. He works out a way to allow people to stay in budget, something that they can afford and maintain for a long period of time, as well as use to help bring out their best features and confidence in themselves.
Then, we have Bobby Berk, the interior designer we all wish to have come makeover our homes! Bobby has this natural talent to take a few important aspects of a persons life or personality and turn it into their dream room or house. His creative thought process is so unique and awe-inspiring, and just even having the ability to witness it through a screen is so cool.
Karamo Brown, culture extraordinaire, has the ability to connect and relate to every complicated friendship, relationship, or situation that anyone is in. Along with all of the Fab 5, he understands the different walks of life and difficulties that everyone faces, and has this beautiful ability to connect to anyone and everyone. He has been able to help people come out to their family, propose to their significant other, or just even improve as a general human being to better benefit themselves and the people around them.
Tan France, a tiny man with enough style and swag for a whole country. Tan has revolutionized so many wardrobes, watching him do his work only makes me want to go all innovative on my own closet. He is able to find that inner fashionista in every single person whether they are a 50-year-old man, 24-year-old guy, or even a 60-year-old woman, Tan's skills are unbelievable. His ability to work with the persons comfort zone all while expanding their closet, taps into the confidence and grace many of the people did not even know they have.
Last, but definitely not least, we have Antoni Porowski. Antoni is the food and wine expert on the show and his incredible range of cooking knowledge, ability, and skills, is unmatched. He connects people and souls through food which is one of the most common languages among us humans. Antoni has a very calming presence on the show which allows the participants to be able to connect with him on a deeper level and learn to express the best version of themselves through food.
These five men not only do they revolutionize the lives of individuals that they work on, but they also teach some of the most valuable lessons that I believe every single human being on this Earth needs to hear. They focus on spreading love to every single person they meet, interact with, or work with, and I think that is what the true beauty of this show is all about.
A quote that stuck with me from this show and one of the main reasons why I am such a fan of it:
"All human beings have a commonality. More so than anyone thinks. We're all really exactly the same. We all are born, we all grow up wanting to be loved, we all become an adult searching for love. It doesn't matter if it's gay or straight. A common thread that holds every human being together is that we wanna be loved."
(Queer Eye, Season 1: E1, Netflix U.S).
This quote is so powerful and so beautiful to me, this show brought me through some of my darkest times, and I sincerely hope that every single person takes some time out of their day to experience the world through the eyes of the Fab 5.
In the end, it is all about love.
