If you don't know who the Fab 5 are then take a day and binge-watch every episode of "Queer Eye" on Netflix because honey you won't regret it! Ever since its release in February, it has been on my recommended for the longest time, so finally after I graduated I caved in and decided to finally start watching it.
"Queer Eye" is a reboot from the original '90s show called "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," but the only difference is the Fab 5 has taken over. For those who haven't watched the show the premise of it is that the Fab 5, consisting of five gay men each with their expertise, gives a complete makeover to different people. However, the makeover isn't just external, it's internal too. The Fab 5 really dig deep into their clients lives finding out their insecurities, and trying to help them overcome their issues, so they can be the person they always have wanted to be.
Now let me introduce you to the Fab 5:
1. Jonathan
Jonathan gives each client a new look as well as teaches grooming techniques
2. Tan
Tan provides a new modern wardrobe
3. Antony
Antony helps them broaden their food and beverage options to give them confidence about cooking (my personal favorite)
4. Bobby
Bobby designs each person a new space
5. Karamo
Karamo offers some important life-tips and confidence boosters
After watching the two seasons back to back I have nothing to look forward to after I get home from a stressful day at work now. Watching a single episode can make you feel a wide range of emotions and ultimately have you sobbing by the end of the episode. While also helping the people with their makeovers, most of the guys share their personal stories of coming out. At one point in their lives they were not accepted for who they were, but instead of letting that define them they decided to rise up from the occasion, and live their lives helping others in the LGBTQ+ community and beyond. In each episode, at least one of the Fab 5 connects with the client.
My personal favorite episode was the first episode of season 2. The guys finally got to have their first makeover with a woman. When we first met "Mama Tammy" she made sure that everybody in her church on Sunday got a hug as she had the important role of being the head usher in her local church that her mother and grandmother help raised. Then we meet her son Myles who is gay and afraid of going to the churches homecoming event due to the judgment of his choice to come out as gay.
As we go on into the episode, we find out about some of the neglect that Bobby and some of the other Fab 5 members got when religion didn't accept who they were. And finally after "Mama Tammy" saw the new community center for her church and says her goodbyes to the boys she speaks at the homecoming service about how we cannot be children of the Lord if we hate our neighbors, and how we have to be loving to everyone even if they are gay, straight, Muslim, black, or white. To me, this episode showed me that there is good in people and how the Fab 5 is changing people's perspectives about the LGBTQ+ community
"Queer Eye" is one of the most inspiring reality T.V. shows I have ever seen. I encourage every human being on this planet to see the beauty and value that everyone in the Fab 5 holds, which is something everyone should strive for. As crazy as it sounds I believe that if everyone watched this beautiful show, the world would be a better place.
