Life's too short. What does that mean exactly? People say it all the time, but do they really mean it or do they really understand the meaning the phrase holds? Do they follow through with their wise words? Are they afraid of it?

I am approaching 21 years old and I can honestly say that I have been through more in my life than what a girl my age should go through. I spent most of my life growing up too fast. In high school, I pushed myself to be an adult and independent at once. In some cases, that is a good thing, but I took it and ran with it. I never really focused on going out or having fun because I was working or too tired to go out, and I still do this to this day. Looking back on the past, I realize I should have enjoyed life a little bit more than I did. Instead of worrying about making money. I shouldn’t have pushed to grow up so fast.

After looking back on the past, I realized that life was too short to waste it. A couple months ago, I lost my childhood friend to a fatal car crash; he was only 20 years old. Even though he was so young when he passed, he was a boy who lived life to the fullest and never wasted a day. He lived out his dream playing guitar and starting a band. In those 20 years he was happy, because he did what he loved and enjoyed doing.

His passing had opened up my eyes and made me realize that life’s too short. In life you have ups and downs but you have to make the best of it. You have to ride the wave and carry on because that’s what people are built to do. There’s nothing in life that a person can’t handle. If there is, try looking at the situation from a different angle. Everyone has a struggle or a story to tell, so don’t assume that someone’s life is perfect by looking at it. I guarantee you if you got to know them more you would find that things aren’t as perfect as they seem. Life’s too short to worry about what people think of you or to worry about your image or even be mad at someone for a long period of time. Do what you want to do, be who you want to be. Don’t get angry at stupid things or hate someone you have never talked to because you “just don’t like them.” People will come and go in your life. The people that love you for you are the best people to have in your life, and are the ones that will stick around for the long haul.

Everyday is like a million yellow sunflowers, precious and beautiful. Don’t be down on yourself or on your life because it’s not worth it in the end. You only have a certain amount of minutes, days and years. We don’t know when our own expiration date is. So, live life to the fullest and don’t hold back. Try something new or something that you have never even dreamed of doing. Go to a different country and experience all it has to offer. Step outside your comfort zone because it’s an amazing experience to try new things. The most important thing to remember is to always say I love you. Whether it be to your parents, significant other, friends, anyone; always say it. You never know what can or will happen. If you love someone tell them, even if you’re scared that it's not the right thing. You say it. Life’s too short to worry about the little things. Don’t be afraid, don’t live in fear. Life’s too short to wish your life away or fear the worst. Just live life doing what you love and being with the people you love, everything else will fall into place. It may not be right away, but one day it will.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
