This past weekend I went on a mini-adventure. This mini-adventure was to Garretsville, Ohio for a Water Polo Quarry Scramble tournament. This tournament has only been around a couple of years and I would've never known about if nobody told me about it.
To start off a car ride of just around six hours is a great way to bond with your friends when you have absolutely nothing else to do but figure out ways to keep each other entertained for the entirety of the ride. We left around 6 a.m. so we had plenty of time to stop for the essentials that we forgot, such as bug spray.
Once you arrive at the campgrounds of Nelson Ledges Quarry, you literally drive up to your camp spot. Take it from me, I am not a camper but the tent was really easy to set-up and bringing an air mattress along was a must. The cooler was already pre-packed with water to keep us going for the three days, as well as Gatorade and anything else we wanted. During this tournament, they only provide dinner for you on Saturday, which means you're on your own for food for most of your meals. This meant plenty of snacks were brought along by everyone.
You set up around a small firepit that allowed the people that you were meeting there to all set up in a circle around it. This meant you weren't completely surrounded by strangers. Finally, after setting everything up, we were able to head down to check out the Quarry.
I was just there as a spectator so I got to really just enjoy the tournament and cheer on my boyfriend in his games. Just a little background is that when you sign up you sign up with two other people and then you're randomly placed on a team with your little group. From there a bracket is made to help determine who plays. You could also float around the field as the water polo match took place.
The event also provided a DJ for Saturday night, as well as the Saturday night dinner. This meant that for the first two nights you really couldn't expect a lot of sleep as everyone was partying and enjoying their mini-trips. Some of whom only got in at 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Friday night. It was also fun to see where everyone had come from, such as Canada, California, Illinois, and more.
Overall it was an experience that I 10/10 would recommend to anyone who likes or plays water polo.
