1. Being encouraging
A best friend will always want the best for you, even if it isn't the best thing for your friendship. This doesn't mean telling your best friend what to do, but it might entail pushing them to be the best they can be.
2. Being the "pick me up"
In any friendship, there will be good days and bad days. Some days are going to be really bad. A best friend will surround their friend with happiness and love in times of grief. If they need a shoulder to cry on, be there. If you can't be there physically, at least be there emotionally.
3. Not expecting them to be with you 100% of the time
Like in any relationship, space is a good thing. It's okay for your best friend to have other friends, and for you to have other friends as well. Space can make you miss your best friend and help each other realize how important you are to one another.
4. Having the ability to let things go
If you're really best friends, you'll have your fair share of little fights- it comes with the territory. You need to be able to say, "hey, this is no biggie." You'll realize later that the fight was over nothing. If you do end up fighting, you and your best friend can laugh about it later.
5. Being their hubby when their hubby isn't
Going on dates with your best friend can be the best. Sushi? Yes, please. Cuddles on the couch while watching Frozen? Why not?! When there's a hole, it's a best friend's duty to fill it. You make some of the best memories this way.
