Seeing Yourself As the Amazing Masterpiece God Made You To Be

Putting On The Artist's Glasses

Do you ever look in the mirror and feel unpleased with the image in front of you? You are too tall. Your face is too round. Your skin has too much acne. Your hair is too thick. Your body isn't the exact shape that you want it to be.

I'm here with a different response to give you than what you might normally get. I'm here to say, "How dare you?" Now, I know now you feel a bit taken back and probably don't want to continue reading this article written by this horrible jerk of an author, but trust me - I will explain.

"Yet you, LORD, are the Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are the work of your hand." Isaiah 64:8

Do you know that you are a piece of art? Have you ever thought about yourself in that way? You may have heard this before, but really let it sink in: that YOU are a piece of art, my friend. But wait, it gets even better. Sure, Picasso is talented, and yes Van Goh may have been okay and all, but your artist is perfect. Your artist, He makes no mistakes. In fact, it is impossible for Him to make a mistake.

"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb." Psalm 139:13

You are not just a bunch of random DNA that happened to line up. You are a thought-out, created, and brilliant piece of work. God could have decided to make everyone look the same, but He decided to take the time to design you uniquely. Psalm 139 uses the word "knit." God knitted you in your mom's womb.

"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." Psalm 139:14

God has a purpose in everything He does. If He didn't, why would we even be here right now? He made you exactly the way you are for a reason. What you think are flaws on your body are just details God wanted to add to His masterpiece in order to make you who you are according to His purpose. How beautiful is that? It is just mind boggling to think of what complex beings you and I are. We all have the same structure but are each such different designs.

Does the clay say to the potter, 'What are you making?' Does your work say, 'The potter has no hands?" Isaiah 45:9

So the next time you look in the mirror, think about the fact that you are a piece of art. The one who breathed out the stars, spoke the world into motion, and defeated death sat at His easel and designed you! When we see something we don't like about us, how dare we argue with the artist? After all we are His. He owns us because He has the credits for creating us.

Next time you look in the mirror and don't like what you see, look at yourself from the perspective of your artist. Your perfect artist sees you as His very own success. To Him you are His precious beautiful handiwork, with whom He is well pleased. So with that, try putting on the glasses of your creator and seeing yourself through those lenses, you will find yourself appreciating yourself for the beautiful, living, masterpiece you are.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
