Many times, we let the opinions of others dictate our words and actions. It can even come to a point where we question our outfit choices based on what someone else may say or think. In situations as such, it all starts with making little sacrifices for those we truly care about, and eventually we begin to let the opinions of others control our happiness. Although it can lift our spirits and feel good to please others, we get so carried away with making them happy that we forget about our own feelings and emotions in the process.

The goal in life is to have a balance with everything that we do. Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to please others and yourself at the same time by striking the perfect harmony among selfishness and self-love. We should not let anyone else's opinion have the ability to affect our personal happiness. Often, we take the opinions of friends, family and even strangers to heart, while allowing those thoughts to change a little part of who we really are in fear of someone else not agreeing with what makes us happy.

The next time you find yourself unhappy due to the opinion or action of someone else, sit back and realize that they do not have that kind of power over you and that you control your own happiness. Understand that most people, outside of family, only do or say things in which benefit themselves, so why not do the same?

Everyone should remember to enjoy the little things and cherish all that brings us joy and happiness, while not letting the judgement of others change how we feel. If you love something, don't be afraid to show it and express yourself just in fear of not fitting in or being seen as weird. It's okay, and even good to be different while cherishing your quirks, likes and dislikes. There is no need to conform to the standards of others when we are all our own person with specific interests.

In the process of individuals conforming to society's standards rather than their personal standards, individuality begins to depreciate and become obsolete. So stand strong with your beliefs, passions and things in which bring joy to your life, and do not let anyone else change you in the slightest. Appreciate being different and all of your quirkiness and remember that no one else can be a better you.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
