When was the last time that you went a day without looking at your phone? When was the last time you laid down at night without your phone and technology laying right there by your head? Technology has become so ingrained into our society that there is no longer a day that goes by that we do not use some form of technology. Whether it be laptop computers, iPhones, apple watches, or android, every second of every day there is some form of it being used. Here’s the problem with that, WE HAVE FORGOTTEN HOW TO TALK IN PERSON!!!!
I have found that over the past four years I am addicted to technology. As a matter of fact, as I am typing this I am watching Netflix, texting my friends, and checking my Snapchat. However, I cannot help but find myself feeling like I’m missing something. Something big, and I feel that it might be the fact that I spend every day attached at the hip to technology. It makes me want to take a trip out to the middle of nowhere and leave my phone at home. However, I can’t. With a busy college life, a job, and marching band, getting away from technology is nearly impossible. However, one day soon I hope to do so. And you should too!!! Here’s why.
Technology takes you away from actual social interactions. Whether it be on the bus ride to a band event or just sitting in the cafe eating dinner with friends, everyone is on their phones. Its sickening. Phones also have the ability to stop you from making friends, like real friends who you actually spend time with. And while technology is great for communicating with a long distance friend, eventually it weakens the connection. Technology is great for classes and studying, but when it comes down to everything else, it is not always that great. Technology should be put down so that it is not something that is always there, but something that can be used for its original purpose, communication during proper times.
So let us get real people, lets put the technology down. Technology is something that shouldn’t be there every minute of every day. Have a conversation with the people that are there with you, in person, not on the other end of the phone. Take a minute and get a way from the virtual world and get back to reality.
