Sadly we live in a world where we base everything off of the amounts we have or bought an item for. I think we should stop putting so much emphasis on the numbers and focus on what really important. Here are a few things we should stop putting numbers on.
1. Weight
This is one of the biggest things that people stress about. We focus on being less the 200 pounds or 150 pounds, etc. We don't just openly accept ourselves and our bodies, I think its a good idea to make good health choices and have a healthy body but the act of focusing on the numbers is what leads people to loose weight in non healthy ways. I say we toss the scale in the trash and start looking in the mirror an calling ourselves beautiful or handsome (yes boys are worried about their weight too).
2. Likes or Followers
I think since most of us probably are seeing this on a social media platform of that we can agree or at least see why this so important to us (especially us millennials) thats because we all want to feel liked. What better way to do that then to post a picture on some sort of platform and see how many likes we can get. Its not with just likes either, I can be with how many friends you have on Facebook, streaks on Snapchat, followers on Twitter the list goes on and on. I try my hardest not to focus on things like that but sometimes its hard, I think we all struggle. I don't care if I follow more people than follow me or only get a few likes on a picture I shared. We should share or post things because we want to, not what we think the world wants us to post.
3. Diamond Size
This has come up a lot in the past few weeks so I decided to put it in this article. Something that really upsets me is the amount of emphasize we put on how big our diamond is. I don't care if its a 0.02 carat or a 2.00 carat Im still going to appreciate my fiancé and his effort. I personally don't want a big diamond, I don't care how much money he has I want him to get me a somewhat smaller diamond because I want to get rid of the silent quota that is "the bigger the better" and "Your ring size defines how much money you make"
4. Money In General
I know that we have to have money to live. I hate that the world revolves around how much money we have in our bank account, how expensive the wedding was, how many square feet our house is or how expensive the car in the driveway is. It makes me sick to my stomach to even think about it. Even though I can't say or do anything to change this I still want us to realize how much emphasize we put on materialized things. I would much rather have a smaller house and a smaller wedding so that I could pay for more important things like good health, my future kids' college, or a nice vacation to make memories.
These are just a few things that I think we put too much pressure, significance, and attention on the numbers involved with them. I want to point out the obvious and hope that you can start to focus on more important things in life like family and friends.
