I will start off by saying I liked this cheesy, predictable movie. I think it would be very difficult to create a dog movie that wasn't predictable. However, there is already a market for films like this. Unfortunately, this movie has been getting some bad publicity due to some possible animal abuse? I'm not exactly sure of the full story but apparently the dog trainers forced a German Shepard into white water rapids in order to capture a shot for one of the scenes. I don't have all the information behind this accusation but I doubt anyone in Hollywood would allow that to occur. If they needed an authentic shot for this potentially dangerous scene, it begs the question, why was it alright to do this but skimp on a chicken chase scene earlier in the movie.
Although I enjoyed the film, I feel as though the story could have been developed differently and in a better way. But let me add, the casting was phenomenal! They fully conveyed the story through their characters and it was enjoyable to watch new faces that aren't as well recognized in a big feature film.
