Living in Colorado for the vast majority of my life is probably what destined me to be a poet. Inspiration is everywhere, especially in the Rocky Mountains. So naturally, (pun intended), I feel drawn to nature. It's hard to call a place without mountains home. Someone once asked me "Do you ever get used to the view?" And I could happily respond with "No. It becomes more beautiful each time you get a glimpse."
I found my breath among the treetops
of the mountains I have climbed
and along the journey
one question plagued my mind
how is it possible to both find
something and lose it
all in the same second?
in the moment that I paused
to catch my breath,
the awe of my surroundings
took it away once more
in the daytime there is chatter
of the birds and wildlife
but I much prefer the sonnets
of the crickets in the night
a million stars above you
and a sea of city lights
the mountains are a poem
from God, to us, he writes.
