15 Signs You Grew Up In Batesville, Ind.

The small, rural town of Batesville, Ind. is a unique and special place. With its low crime, nice neighborhoods, and friendly people, Batesville is the ideal place to grow up and raise a family. That being said, there are some surefire signs that you come from this town, and all Batesvillians can understand.

1. You bleed blue and white.

Blue and white doesn't only mean Colts football, it means the pride of the whole Batesville community. There's no doubt you can find our colors all over town, even if that means a BHS sports sign in someone's front yard. Friday nights never fail to provide a sea of blue, whether it's by the field or in the gym.

2. You have to drive an hour to do anything.

Mall? Hour. Fancy restaurant? Hour. Zoo, concerts, airports, decently tall buildings...at least an hour.

3. Batesville Memorial Public Library was the place to hang in middle school.

Did you actually study there? Probably not. You definitely asked the front desk for a computer password. And sometimes you would actually read a book.

4. You miss Nolte's more and more every day.

On your walk to the library, it was a necessity that you walked through Nolte's and grabbed some candy -- for cheap, too.

5. Sherman house will always be in your heart.

It was a shock when Sherman House closed in the beginning of the year, and it was a sad day for the Batesville Community. Was it haunted? Maybe... I mean, "Ghost Hunters" seems to think so.

6. Schmidt's Bakery -- 'Nuff said.

The place is a classic -- donuts aren't actual donuts unless they come from the small bakery in town. Everyone is always anticipating President's Day for months in advance just to stock up on cherry thing-a-lings.

7. You have a passionate hatred for Greensburg.

Doesn't matter if they have the same colors, they are always our enemies. No matter what.

8. Back-roading is a common pastime.

Bored one night? Chances are, you've taken a nice cruise through the Indiana backroads. The best drives are with the windows down and your favorite music blasting.

9. Everyone is somehow related to everyone.

Turn the corner in Kroger and there's a relative! And another! And another that you didn't thank for that birthday card last month so definitely turn around and walk through the other aisle.

10. The Gibson Theatre

Chances are, you've paid for a movie you didn't even want to see, just because the Gibson only has one theatre in it. And admit it, you used to go on middle school dates here.

11. The Hobo Hut

Everyone in Batesville knows the cheapest (and best) place in town to get breakfast. It's the only place in the area where you can get a completely full belly for less than $5 -- not to mention the great Hoosier hospitality.

12. Gossip spreads like wildfire.

When something exciting happens, everyone in Batesville knows within the hour. News spreads quicker than ever in this small town.

13. Batesville Casket Company

If you've ever told anyone where you lived, and their response was, "Oh! Caskets, right?!", there is a 100 percent chance you live in Batesville.

14. Nobody has a clue where your town is located.

You usually just resort to telling people you live halfway between Indianapolis and Cincinnati, and hope for the best.

15. You recognize the hospital beds on medical TV shows.

If you're from Batesville, you've noticed the Hill-Rom logo on hospital beds in your favorite medical TV series. As a local Batesville resident, it's hard to miss.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
