10 Ultimate Truths That Come With Being A Puppy Parent

Being a puppy parent is a full time job. Although it's love at first sight with your new little one, you quickly learn how stressful raising a puppy can be. Here's a list of just some of the joys that come with puppy parenting:

1. You're always worrying

"Google, why does my puppy sleep so much?" You find yourself googling about each and every weird thing your puppy does because just like any parent you're always worrying about your little one.

2. Your house is their bathroom

When your puppy goes MIA for over a minute you can almost guarantee that he's found a new place in the house to go to the bathroom.

3. You become that annoying Facebook parent

For some reason every little thing your new puppy does is the cutest thing ever. Whether he's taking a car ride, playing with his new toy, wearing a cute outfit, or literally just sleeping you find the need to post about everything your new pup does. Your Snapchat story is five minutes of your puppy barking at a tennis ball and your Facebook is completely taken over by pictures of your new little one.

4. You spend way too much money

A casual trip to the store for "just a few things" turns into $100 on chew toys, treats, and cute outfits for your new baby. Because why not buy your puppy a St. Patrick's Day bow tie?

5. How's that shoe tasting?

Despite the fact that you spend an entire paycheck on your puppy, buying him every toy that Pet Smart sells, for some reason your shoes still get all of your pup's attention.

6. You get a lot more exercise

You know that $50 a month you've been paying for a gym membership? You can go ahead and cancel that now. Having a new puppy is a full workout in itself. Your new little one will have you up and running around at all hours of the day.

7. You're exhausted

So remember that part about getting more exercise? I didn't say that was a good thing. You're going to be a lot more exhausted than before your furry friend came along. For some reason, your sleep schedules are never on the same track. Just when you think it's safe to close your eyes you're woken up by a slobbery kiss from your little pup.

8. You catch yourself using a baby voice

For some reason every time you talk to your new puppy you find yourself using the same annoying baby voice that you would if you were talking to a newborn baby.

9. You always feel guilty

Once you get your new puppy you start to develop some parental guilt. You try and discipline your pup but two minutes later your find yourself sneaking him a treat or a belly rub. Oh, and don't even think about leaving the house. Every time you leave the house and your pup stays behind you feel a bullet to your chest.

10. Your pup becomes family

Sure, your little one gets on your nerves from time to time but becoming a puppy parent is one of the best things to happen to you. Your puppy brings so much happiness into your life that you question how you ever even lived without them

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
